Sangasanga - PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) has conducted exploration drilling on the exploration well of the Helios D-1 to confirm existing resources at deeper intervals from the Sangasanga field production area.

Based on a comprehensive subsurface and surface study, the Helios D-1 exploration well is suitable as a well. After the first drilling of the Phoenix North-1 ST Well exploration, the Helios D-1 exploration well is at a deeper interval than the Sangasanga field production area.

President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), Chalid Said Salim, said that PHI, the parent company, and its subsidiaries continue to invest in exploration and development activities for oil and gas fields to find new resources and increase reserves that are important for national energy security. According to him, the development and exploration of wells is the responsibility and collaboration between the Exploration Division, all Pertamina Officers, and all contractors supporting operations to provide maximum results.

"We carry out a borderless strategy that collaboration between PHI, PHSS, PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Asset 5, Pertamina Subholding Upstream (SHU), and PT Elnusa. The result of the synergy and collaboration between Pertamina groups is an opening (play opener) in finding resources that will increase oil and gas reserves," said Chalid.

Chalid added that this well expected to be a discovery for the development of the Company's future resources and maintain energy continuity in Indonesia.

"The target of this drilling is to achieve OTOBOSOR (On Target, On Budget, On Scope/Spec/Safety, On Return/Regulation) and can meet the target of additional resources or 2C so that the finding of reserves and Reserve to Production (RTP) or the company's production operating period can be longer," added Chalid.

Meanwhile, the Director of Exploration of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, Muharram Jaya Panguriseng, explained that Pertamina always carries out operations that prioritize aspects of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) so that it can ensure the safety of workers, operating facilities, communities, and the environment wherever the Company operates, including in this drilling project.

"We implement the HSSE Golden Rules which are Compliance, Intervention, and Care. From the operational side, we also apply the OTOBOSOR principle in every oil and gas project of the Company," said Muharram.

The play opener structure will open the next target, namely the Helios structure in areas A, B, C, D, & E in the PHSS work area. This Helios D-1 well was drilled with the Elnusa EMR-01 Rig, which has more than 1.2 million hours of safe working hours and has been operating in the Sangasanga area since November 2018.

Good collaboration with PT Elnusa is carried out to mitigate existing challenges such as location, land preparation, and rig movement from previous wells to the current location. In this regard, VP of Upstream Services of PT Elnusa, Lulut Sugianto, explained that PT Elnusa acts as a contractor committed to completing exploration wells with a budget and time system as programmed, communicating well with operators and other service companies, and conducting operations with attention to safety factors.

The Helios D-1 Exploration Well is one of 4 Definite Commitment exploration wells in the Sangasanga area, as for the other definite commitment wells, that is the Phoenix North-1 ST Well, the Polaris D-1X Well, and the Draco B-1X Well. This well is the 18th well to be plowed in 2022, out of a target of 22 planned wells.
