Tarakan, North Kalimantan – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tarakan Field conducted a Fire Disaster Awareness and Education program for communities in three sub-districts surrounding its operational area in Tarakan City, on 14–16 April 2026. This activity reflects the Company's commitment and proactive efforts to enhance community awareness, capacity, and preparedness in preventing fire risks in daily activities, thereby protecting lives and community assets.
The program was attended by approximately 207 participants, consisting of representatives from three sub-districts—Pantai Amal, Kampung I Skip, and Mamburungan—along with neighborhood heads (RT), Fire Care Community (MPA) members, and community leaders, demonstrating strong enthusiasm and shared commitment in building a safer and more resilient environment against fire risks.
In this activity, PEP Tarakan Field collaborated with the Tarakan Municipal Police (Satpol PP) and the Fire Department to provide comprehensive training that integrated theoretical and practical aspects of fire response. The materials delivered focused on increasing awareness of fire risks, such as potential electrical short circuits and negligence in domestic activities, as well as on proper decision-making during emergencies, prioritizing life safety above all else. In addition, participants received hands-on training in extinguishing fires using fire extinguishers (APAR) and simple household tools, such as wet sacks or blankets, as an initial response measure before professional assistance arrives.
Superintendent HSSE Operations at Tarakan Field, Ahmad Supriyadi, stated that the activity serves as the Company's knowledge-sharing with the community. "PEP Tarakan has consistently provided support to the Tarakan Fire Department in handling fire disasters together with the PEP Tarakan Fire Brigade team, in line with the Company's MoU with the Tarakan City Government. As a responsible member of the community, we are also committed to providing support and humanitarian assistance to residents affected by disasters and/or emergency conditions," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Fire Department Division (PMK) of Satpol PP and the Fire Department of Tarakan, Eko Supriyatnoko, emphasized that the community serves as an "extension" of the fire department. "As the frontline support for the fire department, we expect the community to understand fire hazards. In the event of a fire, immediately contact the fire department and carry out initial emergency response measures until assistance arrives," he explained.
Local sub-district heads also expressed their appreciation for the program, noting that it strengthens synergy and collaboration among the Company, government, and community in building a sustainable emergency response culture within Tarakan City. Going forward, this strong synergy will not only serve as a foundation for fire risk mitigation but also enhance community resilience in facing various potential disasters, which is essential in supporting safe, reliable upstream oil and gas operations that deliver added value to surrounding communities.
