Strengthening Synergy with the Media, PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur Hosts Sabtu Bersama PHKT Event

Penajam– PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) hosted a Press Tour and Media Gathering titled Sabtu Bersama PHKT on Saturday, October 26, 2024. The event invited journalists from Balikpapan and Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) to observe the operational activities at the Lawe-Lawe Terminal, a key upstream oil and gas facility in East Kalimantan.

The Sabtu Bersama PHKT initiative is designed to provide journalists with a deeper understanding of the upstream oil and gas industry, focusing on PHKT's offshore operations. This program aims to enhance the quality and accuracy of media coverage of PHKT's strategic role in bolstering national energy security. Additionally, the event encourages active media participation in the prestigious Pertamina Journalism Awards, organized by PT Pertamina (Persero).

Participants engaged in a series of activities to broaden their industry knowledge. These included safety awareness training specific to oil and gas operations and an introduction to the Lawe-Lawe Terminal facilities designated as a National Vital Object. Journalists were also educated on the technical processes of oil and gas exploration and production, from hydrocarbon exploration to the distribution of crude oil to the Refinery Unit-V Balikpapan for further processing into fuel and other energy products.

The program also highlighted PHKT's contributions through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, such as the Semai Jamur dengan Cerdas dan Berwawasan Pangan (SEMUR CENDAWAN) program, which received a Gold award in the 2023 PROPER program organized by Indonesia's Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

Another key feature of the event was the One Two Trees initiative, launched by SKK Migas and its Production Sharing Contractors (PSCs). This initiative focuses on long-term environmental conservation through tree planting.

Journalists were granted exclusive access to restricted areas of the Lawe-Lawe Terminal to witness its operations firsthand. To promote collaboration and camaraderie, the event concluded with a Sports Media Gathering featuring friendly matches between journalist teams from Balikpapan, Penajam Paser Utara, and the PHKT team.

Syamsul Arifin, Superintendent of Production at Lawe-Lawe, expressed his appreciation for the media's support in ensuring the success of PHKT's operations. He emphasized the importance of balanced reporting on the upstream oil and gas sector. "Media support is essential in building a positive image of this industry as a cornerstone of development and a key driver of the national economy," Syamsul stated.

Debi, Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Balikpapan, commended PHKT's efforts to directly introduce the upstream oil and gas industry to the media. "This event expanded our knowledge and strengthened relationships among journalists. We hope similar programs will continue to be held regularly," he said.

Erwin, Chairman of PWI Penajam Paser Utara (PPU), shared similar sentiments, applauding PHKT's commitment to providing comprehensive insights into the industry's contributions to national energy needs. "This event serves as both an educational platform and a means to foster stronger synergy between the media and the energy sector," he noted.

Previously, PHKT successfully hosted the Baso IGA PHI Jilid-1 program in 2023, themed Mengarungi Lautan Untuk Indonesia, which was recognized at the Media Relations Award organized by the Serikat Pekerja Pers (SPS). This achievement further solidifies PHKT's dedication to fostering strong relationships with the media to support the growth of the national energy industry.
