Kutai Kartanegara – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening human capital development by improving access to education and healthcare through the SHU Ecovation Day: Lensa Energi program. Initiated by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), the program provides eye examinations and eyeglasses for elementary school students as an early detection initiative for visual impairments that may affect the learning process. Through this program, PHM engaged schoolchildren living around the company’s operational areas in the Mahakam Delta, namely Muara Kembang Urban Village and Kutai Lama Village, on August 3 and 4, 2026.
The activity, held at the Muara Kembang Urban Village Meeting Hall, involved 87 participants consisting of the Head of Muara Kembang Urban Village and staff, the Optik Jakarta team, teachers, and 66 sixth-grade students from SDN 002 Muara Jawa, SDN 009 Muara Jawa, and Al-Istiqomah Private Islamic Elementary School. Meanwhile, in Kutai Lama Village, the program was conducted at SDN 010 Anggana and attended by 52 sixth-grade students. The eye examination series was supported by the school’s teaching staff and the Optik Jakarta team.
The program received an enthusiastic response from students, teachers, and the local government. The provision of eye examination services within the school environment is expected to help improve the quality of learning while also raising public awareness of the importance of maintaining eye health from an early age. Each participant underwent a comprehensive eye examination, including registration, a color vision test, an objective refraction examination, and a subjective examination involving the reading of letters and numbers to determine visual acuity and identify the need for corrective eyeglasses.
On the occasion, Principal of SDN 010 Anggana, Sunarsih, expressed her appreciation for the implementation of the program. According to her, during the learning process, teachers had identified several students who were suspected of experiencing vision problems. “Due to their families’ financial limitations, most of the students have never undergone an eye examination or received eyeglasses suited to their needs. Therefore, this program has been very helpful to us,” Sunarsih said.
Head of Muara Kembang Urban Village, Mukosim, also expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between the local government and PHM in delivering tangible benefits to the community. “We appreciate PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam’s commitment to continuously delivering programs that address the needs of the community. Eye health examinations for children are an important investment in their future, as good vision supports the learning process and contributes to improving the quality of human resources in our community,” Mukosim said.
On a separate occasion, General Manager of PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam, Setyo Sapto Edi, emphasized that community engagement and development are an integral part of the company’s commitment and strategy to support sustainable operations. “PHM believes that the success of the company’s operations must go hand in hand with improvements in the quality of life of communities surrounding our operational areas. Through the SHU Ecovation Day: Lensa Energi Community Involvement and Development (CID) Program, we hope to help children gain access to eye healthcare services so they can learn more effectively. This program reflects our commitment to creating shared value and supporting the development of high-quality human capital,” he concluded.
