Strengthening Explosives Safety Governance, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Hosts Forkomex 2025

Strengthening Explosives Safety Governance, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Hosts Forkomex 2025

Yogyakarta – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) hosted the Semester II 2025 Workshop on Warehouse and Explosives Safety, held on 11–12 November 2025 in Yogyakarta. The event was part of this year’s agenda of the Kalimantan–Sulawesi Explosives Communication Forum (Forkomex). The workshop served as an important platform to strengthen synergy, enhance competencies, and update explosives safety governance, which plays a vital role in upstream oil and gas operations.

In his remarks, the Head of SKK Migas Kalimantan & Sulawesi Representative Office (SKK Migas Kalsul), Azhari Idris, expressed optimism about the future of national oil and gas production, particularly from the Kalimantan and Sulawesi regions. “The year 2026 is projected to be a major turning point for Kalimantan and Sulawesi, which are expected to become Indonesia’s top oil and gas producing regions. Two newly discovered reserves will play a strategic role in strengthening national energy security,” said Azhari.

He also emphasized that Forkomex is expected to serve as a solid technical collaboration forum that supports all operational processes and ensures safe and professional explosives governance.

The workshop began with the inauguration of the Forkomex Management Board for the 2025–2028 period. The new board carries the vision of “Establishing a professional forum that ensures oil and gas operations run safely, in compliance with regulations, and support national production targets.” This vision is expected to strengthen cross-agency coordination in overseeing the safety of explosives operations, which are a crucial part of drilling activities. The moment marked a renewed direction for the forum to build a safer, standardized, and more professional oil and gas working ecosystem.

Senior Manager Relations of PHI, Handri Ramdhani, stated that the workshop serves not only as a discussion space but also as a platform to strengthen safety standards and cross-agency synergy in managing explosives operations, which are critical to upstream oil and gas activities. “We believe that the competency development, regulatory insights, and new technologies discussed in this forum will directly contribute to operations that are safer, more secure, efficient, and compliant with applicable regulations,” said Handri. He added that, in a high-risk industry, collaborations like this form a vital foundation to ensure operational integrity and quality across the entire chain.

Throughout the two-day session, participants received comprehensive presentations covering regulatory updates and technical aspects of explosives disposal. Representing SKK Migas Headquarters, M. Erwin Kurniawan joined as a speaker, alongside Muti S. Desrini, who provided detailed insights on the procedures for disposing State-Owned Goods (BMN)/Non-Asset items, warehouse facility management, and strengthening compliance with the latest Ministry of Finance Regulations (PMK) and Work Procedure Guidelines (PTK). These materials served as a strategic foundation for explosives personnel in ensuring safe, orderly, and regulation-compliant operations.

In addition to regulatory updates, various service companies presented cutting-edge technologies designed to enhance efficiency and safety in oil and gas operations. These included reactive liners, non-explosive cutters, addressable systems, and locally developed combo units. The technologies open new opportunities for digital transformation and modernization of explosives management systems, helping field operations become more precise, controlled, and low-risk.

Forkomex also reaffirmed its commitments for the 2025–2028 period, including achieving Zero Incident, improving personnel capacity, ensuring operational efficiency without regulatory barriers, and accelerating digital transformation in explosives governance. All these goals are aligned with efforts to ensure that oil and gas operations contribute optimally to national production targets.
