Sanipah – Swift actions by workers of PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) saved the life of a fisherman in the waters around the Jetty Gathering and Testing Satellite (GTS) Senipah South Mahakam (SNPS), approximately 20 km north of Camp SPU, on August 12, 2025. The fisherman’s boat, belonging to a man named Saleh, encountered problems at sea and was on the verge of sinking.

The rescue began when two PHM crew members aboard the worker transport vessel, the sea truck (ST) Dorado, spotted the fisherman’s boat in distress. The two crew members, Dedi Suryadi and Syahdian Nur, were on standby at the GTS SPS Jetty around 9:00 WITA, waiting for production operators on duty.

Together with PHM operators and security teams, the ST Dorado crew immediately took action, implementing emergency measures and conducting evacuation efforts. They successfully rescued Saleh and secured his boat, towing it to the nearest location in Muara Pantuan Village.

PHM General Manager, Setyo Sapto Edi, expressed his appreciation for the workers’ actions. He emphasized that the incident demonstrated the benefits of implementing a health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE) culture among workers, both in company operations and in emergencies involving community members.

“The swift actions of the crew in the field showed that safety awareness and care for others have already become part of the values we practice every day. We believe HSSE is not only a work procedure but a way of life that can save lives,” he said.

Setyo also highlighted that by making safety the top priority, PHM ensured safe operational activities that supported the sustainability of national oil and gas production, while also safeguarding the environment, protecting workers, and providing real benefits to surrounding communities.

Meanwhile, one of the ST Dorado crew members humbly stated that they had simply done what needed to be done. “There is nothing more valuable than saving a human life. We only did what we should do, help others,” he said.

The quick response and teamwork across functions proved that safety is not only an individual responsibility but the result of collective synergy, which in this case succeeded in saving a human life.
