Jakarta- PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), succeeded in obtaining a new gas and condensate discovery in the Adiwarna-1x exploration well in the Mahakam Work Area (WK) located off the coast of East Kalimantan. This is PHM's second discovery after previously finding oil and gas in the Manpatu-1X exploration well in early 2022.

PHI Vice President of Exploration, Sri Hartanto, explained that Adiwarna-1x is an exploration well in the South Mahakam area in Balikpapan offshore waters, which is a synergy well with the Jumelai-105 development well. "In the future, it is hoped that monetization can be carried out more quickly and easily by using the nearest existing field facility, namely Jumelai," explained Sri Hartanto.

According to Sri Hartanto, the drilling started on April 17, 2023by using the Hakuryu-14 Rig and reached a final well depth of 4290 MD meters on May 27, 2023.

"The drilling of this exploratory well-found layers of gas and condensate hydrocarbons at the U14 interval equivalent to the Maruat formation. The success of the Adiwarna-1x drilling has opened a new potential (play opener) in the South Mahakam area for deeper targets in this area," he added.

Acting General Manager of PHM, Ferico Afrinas, conveyed PHM's commitment to continue carrying out safe, effective, superior upstream oil and gas operations so that the Mahakam WK can continue contributing significantly to adding reserves and achieving the national oil and gas production target.

According to Ferico, the exploration drilling of the Adiwarna-1x well was carried out with high HSSE performance, as well as the concept of operational excellence until the flow test was carried out on June 26, 2023, and succeeded in draining gas and condensate from the primary target reservoir. "The success of these two exploration wells is a driving force for our enthusiasm to continue drilling oil and gas wells which are important for the continuity of production in the Mahakam WK fields," said Federico.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PHI, John Anis, revealed that the discovery of gas from the Adiwarna-1x exploration well was one of the achievements of the Company's strategy in increasing reserves and maintaining oil and gas production through exploration and development (exploitation) drilling activities.

"We have several main strategies to maximize the management of the Company's upstream oil and gas assets, including aggressive exploration activities to seek new resources with a new play concept as well as baseline and development optimization to increase production," explained John.

John stated that this discovery was necessary for 2023 for PHM and Indonesia following the success of the Manpatu-1X discovery in 2022. "We continue to invest in exploration and development activities to support the Indonesian Government's oil and gas production targets, namely 1 million barrels of oil per day and 12 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day in 2030," he concluded.
