Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan– PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT), in collaboration with the Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) Regency Government, held a public outreach program for the upstream oil and gas development plan. This program involved drilling new oil and gas wells in the Yakin Field, YCB-8RD1 and Yakin YCB-7RD1, located in Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) Regency, East Kalimantan. Drilling for these two wells commenced on July 25, 2025, and is scheduled to conclude on August 13, 2025.

The drilling of the YCB-8RD1 and Yakin YCB-7RD1 wells is part of PHKT's commitment to continue investing in oil and gas field exploitation and development, supporting the achievement of national production targets in line with the government's Asta Cita (Goal of Energy Self-Sufficiency). The two wells are expected to generate an additional 600 barrels of oil per day (BOPD).

The public outreach program took place in Nipah-nipah Village, PPU. This outreach activity aimed to strengthen coordination and collaboration with stakeholders and convey the drilling plan for the two development wells. The event was attended by, among others, the Fisheries Service, the Environmental Service, the Balikpapan Class 1 KSOP, sub-district heads, village heads, village heads, members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and representatives from the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) for Kalimantan and Sulawesi. The active support and involvement of stakeholders were key to the success of the drilling activity.

During the technical presentation session, Eka Pambudi, a representative of the PHKT Drilling Team, provided information regarding the drilling activities, including the top priority of safety aspects. "Thank God, until mid-2025, all drilling activities in Zona 10, which also includes PHKT, have proceeded without incident. We continue to maintain our Zero Incident target through consistent safety meetings, rigorous operational audits, and the presence of Safety Marshalls in the field as part of our safe work culture," explained Eka

Regarding environmental compliance, Maria Ulfah, a representative of the PHKT Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Team, added that the development well plan was outlined in the 2016 AMDAL document, published on February 23, 2016, and that all stages had been designed with environmental protection and sustainability in mind.

Azhari Idris, Head of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) Representative Office for Kalimantan and Sulawesi, expressed his appreciation for the synergy established between PHKT and the PPU Regency Government in supporting the smooth running of oil and gas drilling activities. "The drilling of the YC8-8RD1 and YCB-7RD1 development wells is a strategic step in maintaining and increasing national oil and gas production. SKK Migas appreciates Pertamina's commitment to operating safely and in compliance with environmental regulations. With the support of solid cross-sector collaboration, SKK Migas is optimistic that this activity can proceed safely and smoothly, providing tangible benefits both for the local area and for strengthening national energy security," he added.

The discussion session was interactive and constructive. Several stakeholders also expressed their appreciation and support for the development well drilling plan. The Head of the PPU Regency Fisheries Office, Rozihan, assessed the outreach activity as a manifestation of open communication from the start. "We hope this activity can proceed safely and still pay attention to environmental aspects and the sustainability of coastal resources in our region," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the PPU Regency Environmental Office, Safwana, stated that this outreach activity is important so that the public understands that all drilling activities have gone through the appropriate environmental permitting process. "With PHKT's transparency, we are confident that this activity can be carried out responsibly and will not have a negative impact on the community," he concluded.

In line with this statement, the Director of the East Kalimantan Regional Police's Security and Public Order Agency, Senior Commissioner Sunardhi, stated, "Security and safety are certainly a shared priority. We fully support upstream oil and gas development activities, provided they are carried out in accordance with regulations and with effective cross-sector coordination. We hope this activity runs smoothly and results in zero incidents.

This outreach activity affirms PHKT's commitment to consistently conducting safe, reliable, and compliant oil and gas operations through the involvement of all stakeholders. Through a collaborative approach and the application of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in its upstream oil and gas operations, PHKT continues to support national energy security, which is crucial for the success of the ambitious Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
