Katowice, Poland - The innovation of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) as the Regional 3 Subholding Upstream of Pertamina has successfully won international recognition at The 17th International Invention and Innovation Show INTARG held in Katowice, Poland, on May 21-23, 2024. Represented by the CIP PC-Prove Gempi cluster, PHI's innovation titled "Increasing Company Revenue from Producing Inactive Wells Using the GEMPI at PHI Regional 3, Zone 10, Tarakan Field" clinched the Gold Medal and Special Award from the International Federation of Inventors' Associations (IFIA).
GEMPI, short for Green Environmental Oil Pump Installation, is an environmentally friendly solar-powered pump installation used to reactivate production from inactive oil wells that are suspended and far from the power grid. Thanks to this innovation, thousands of other potential wells have the opportunity to resume production. This breakthrough also reaffirms Pertamina's commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles implementation, particularly decarbonization programs, energy efficiency, and efforts to support the achievement of national oil and gas production targets.
The INTARG 2024 forum, organized by Eurobusiness-Haller, is a prestigious international event attended by more than 267 participants from 21 countries. The exhibition at this forum showcases various innovative technological capabilities, creates international business opportunities, and promotes industrial transformation. PHI was one of the delegations among four teams present under the coordination of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi - Subholding Upstream.
The achievement of the Gold Medal and IFIA Special Award complements PHI's achievements through the CIP PC-Prove Gempi cluster, which also received awards at the 2023 Subroto Award for Energy Efficiency from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Platinum Award at the 2023 Annual Pertamina Quality Award (APQA).
"We encourage innovation and the implementation of technology in the Company's operations and business based on best practices in the national and global upstream oil and gas industry," said Sunaryanto, President Director of PHI. The implementation of innovation and technology, continued by the President Director of PHI, plays a crucial role in maintaining the recovery rate and production of mature oil and gas fields.
GM Zona 10 Subholding Upstream Pertamina, Yoseph Agung Prihartono, also expressed his pride in this achievement and appreciated all parties involved in developing the GEMPI innovation. Expanding the utilization of GEMPI within the Tarakan Field holds the capacity to yield revenues nearing USD 4.7 million.
Meanwhile, Tarakan Field Manager Cahyo Tri Mulyanto explained that GEMPI is a flagship in the Continuous Improvement Program (CIP). Thousands of suspended wells can potentially contribute to efforts to meet national energy needs.
PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tarakan Field is under Subholding Upstream Regional 3 led by PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) in managing upstream oil and gas operations and businesses according to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Through collaboration with SKK Migas, PEP Tarakan Field, along with other subsidiaries and affiliates of PHI, continues to implement various innovations and technological applications to produce safe, efficient, reliable, compliant, and environmentally friendly energy to realize #KalimantanEnergyForIndonesia.
