Sepatin — As a manifestation of its commitment to improving the quality of education in its operational area, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) held a workshop on "Numeracy Improvement Strategies" at SMP Negeri 6 Anggana, Sepatin Village, Anggana District, East Kalimantan, on Saturday, July 26, 2025. Twenty-eight teachers and principals from 11 junior high and high schools in Anggana District participated in the workshop. This workshop was part of the Floating Public School CSR program, initiated by PHM in collaboration with the "Teacher Leaders" program from Indonesia Mengajar.

The workshop is held monthly as an effort to improve the quality of education and develop the competencies of educators in Anggana District, through the Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Anggana Smart Kukar Learning Community (KBKPI PHM Anggana). Each month, the theme is tailored to the learning needs of the teachers. KBKPI PHM Anggana serves not only as a learning space but also as a forum for sharing good practices between schools and a place to discuss and find solutions to various challenges faced by teachers in the field.

Siti, a member of the KBKPI PHM Anggana, said the workshop was a highly anticipated event. Gathering and discussing with school principals, leading teachers, and teachers from various educational units provided Siti with many new insights, particularly regarding the teaching of numeracy across subjects. "The material was interesting, delivered patiently, and very applicable. We also learned about the challenges faced by teachers who teach in schools accessible only by sea. It was a truly eye-opening experience," she said.

Frans Alexander A. Hukom, Head of Communication, Relations, and CID Zona 8, expressed his appreciation to the teachers who remained enthusiastic about learning and sharing their knowledge despite the long journey across the Mahakam River estuary. He also emphasized that PHM will continue to support this activity by providing adequate facilities as part of its community engagement and development program around the Company's operational areas.

This activity represents PHM's contribution to supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, specifically Quality Education, by providing equitable access to teacher capacity building. "We believe that strong education begins with teachers who continue to learn. Through this initiative, we hope to become a strategic partner in improving the quality of education in our operational areas," he added.

The Floating Public School Program is an initiative designed to support education in the Mahakam waters and coastal areas. This program focuses on providing educational facilities, improving teacher competency, and strengthening the learning ecosystem in schools in remote areas.
