Tanjung Pinang – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), held the second sail away ceremony for the SNB AOI Project topside platforms WPN7 and WPN8 on May 6, 2025, at the PT Meindo Elang Indah yard in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands. The first sail away for the WPS4 and WPS5 platforms to the Sisi Nubi Field was conducted on April 28, 2025. The third sail away, for platforms WPN5 and WPN6, is scheduled for May 16, 2025.
PHM General Manager Setyo Sapto Edi emphasized the company's commitment to continued investment in exploration and development drilling activities to support national oil and gas production targets. “The SNB AOI Project is one of our strategic projects in maintaining sustainable oil and gas production from the Mahakam Working Area. This project is vital for supporting national energy security, as it increases PHM’s gas and condensate production, with a design capacity of approximately 30 MMSCFD per platform,” Setyo explained.
According to him, the drilling activities in this project will adopt industry best practices in the oil and gas sector. They are scheduled for implementation in the second half of 2025 and are targeted to be onstream in the fourth quarter of 2025. "The application of technologies such as Suction Pile Foundation, along with effective project management, will be key to ensuring operational reliability in supporting sustainable production and national energy security," said Setyo.
On this occasion, Setyo also expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) performance of the SNB AOI Project, which has achieved over 7 million Safe Man-Hours. “At PHM, we always prioritize work safety and environmental preservation in all operational activities to ensure safe, reliable, compliant, and environmentally friendly energy,” Setyo stated.
Adding to Setyo's remarks, Bambang Arief Wicaksono, Senior Expert of the Project Management Office Upstream at PT Pertamina (Persero), stated that the SNB AOI Project is one of the priority projects of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, led by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi. The successful execution of this project is expected to significantly contribute to Pertamina's overall investment performance.
Meanwhile, Head of Project Management Department at the SKK Migas Project Management Division, Kosario M. Kautsar, also emphasized that the SNB AOI Project is one of fifteen strategic upstream oil and gas projects scheduled to come onstream in the fourth quarter of 2025. “The SNB AOI Project still has several phases ahead. We hope PHM remains focused on safety and completes the project in line with the commitments outlined in the 2025 Work Program & Budget (WP&B),” he said.
The SNB AOI Project is an offshore field development project in the Sisi Nubi area. It is located 25 km off the coast of the Mahakam Delta in PHM’s operational area in East Kalimantan Province, at a water depth of 60–80 meters.
To date, all six platform jackets have been successfully installed at the offshore site using Suction Pile Foundation technology, an innovative approach that enables faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly installation of subsea structures. This marks the first use of this technology in Indonesia. The project also includes the installation of six subsea pipeline segments, totaling 22 km in length, connecting the new platforms to existing facilities in the Sisi Nubi area. The pipeline installation has been completed on schedule.
