Kutai Kartanegara – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) received a working visit from the Head of the Ibu Kota Nusantara Authority (OIKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, on 27 February 2026. The visit to the Handil Central Processing Area (HCA) Field and Senipah Peciko & South Mahakam (SPS) facilities marked an important opportunity to directly observe upstream oil and gas operations in East Kalimantan, particularly within the IKN area, which plays a strategic role in supporting national energy availability and resilience.
During the visit, the Head of OIKN and his delegation also reviewed the potential, opportunities, and challenges related to coastal economic development, disaster-resilient settlements, and support for national strategic functions surrounding the HCA and SPS fields. This step is considered important for strengthening cross-sector and stakeholder synergy to support IKN's development and future operations.
In the audience session, PHM General Manager Setyo Sapto Edi presented the Company’s operational profile, production contribution, and commitment to conducting oil and gas operations that are safe, reliable, compliant, and environmentally friendly. “We coordinate with the IKN Authority regarding the sustainability of the Company’s investment projects and upstream oil and gas operational activities within working areas located inside the IKN region,” Setyo stated.
He emphasized that the sustainability of the Company’s investment and oil and gas production is crucial to supporting IKN's existence now and in the future. “Sustained upstream oil and gas investment, both in exploration and exploitation, will generate multiplier benefits in meeting energy needs, driving community economic growth, and supporting Indonesia’s future development, including IKN,” he explained.
Responding to PHM’s presentation, Head of OIKN Basuki Hadimuljono expressed appreciation for the Company’s performance and contribution in maintaining national energy independence. He underlined the importance of collaboration between OIKN and energy industry players to ensure a reliable energy supply to support IKN's development and future operations. “Energy availability is one of the fundamental factors in the development and operation of IKN. We appreciate PHM’s commitment and contribution in maintaining national oil and gas production, particularly in East Kalimantan,” Basuki said.
The visit is expected to further strengthen collaboration and synergy between OIKN and PHM in realizing IKN as a modern, sustainable, and globally competitive government center, while also supporting national energy resilience. This collaboration reflects the tangible contribution of the upstream oil and gas sector in advancing the national development agenda in line with the Government’s Asta Cita, particularly in strengthening energy independence and sustainable development.
