Supporting Net Zero Emission Goals, PT Pertamina EP Bunyu Field Conducts Emission Testing for Operational Vehicles

Pulau Bunyu, North Kalimantan – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Bunyu Field, in collaboration with the Bulungan Regency Transportation Agency, conducted motor vehicle emission testing at the HSSE Office of PEP Bunyu Field in Bunyu Timur Village, Bunyu District, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan. This initiative aims to ensure that the company's operational vehicles comply with exhaust emission standards by applicable regulations while supporting environmental conservation (January 18, 2025).

The emission test aligns with Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 8 of 2023 regarding motor vehicle emission quality standards. PEP Bunyu Field tested 67 operational vehicles, consisting of 15 six-wheeled vehicles and 52 four-wheeled vehicles. The test results confirmed that all vehicles passed the emission standards.

In his remarks, Pjs. Senior Manager of Bunyu Field, Benny Kawira, emphasized that vehicle emission testing reflects the company's commitment to improving air quality. "We hope this initiative inspires all stakeholders to be more aware of vehicle emissions, both for personal and operational vehicles," he stated.

Benny also noted that the emission testing initiative aligns with Pertamina's policy on emissions reduction and supports Indonesia's Net Zero Emission target for 2060.

Representing the Bulungan Regency Transportation Agency, Yudi Iwan Wahyudi highlighted that vehicle emission testing is a concrete step toward implementing environmental policies focused on reducing emissions and improving air quality. "Moving forward, emission testing should be conducted regularly, not only for private vehicles but also for all operational vehicles, to help tackle air pollution in Bunyu," he added.

Yudi further emphasized the importance of public education on emission testing and the impact of air pollution on health, which should be a top priority. "Educational efforts serve as an effective short-term solution. Additionally, stricter monitoring should be applied to vehicles that do not meet emission standards," he concluded.

The event began with a symbolic emission test conducted by the Transportation Agency, followed by tests on various operational vehicles, including fire trucks, vacuum trucks, and double-cabin vehicles. The testing measured several parameters, such as opacity for diesel vehicles, carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulate matter, ensuring compliance with emission quality standards.

PEP Bunyu Field contributes to air pollution control and environmental sustainability through this emission testing initiative. Vehicle emission testing plays a crucial role in minimizing the negative impact of air pollution on public health and the environment. This effort aligns with the company's sustainability policies and commitment to conducting safe, reliable, compliant, and environmentally friendly oil and gas operations.
