Supporting Human Capital Development in the Energy Sector, PT Pertamina EP Sangasanga Field Facilitates Educational Visit from STT Migas Balikpapan

Sangasanga– PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field welcomed an educational visit from Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi (STT) Migas Balikpapan at Wisma Ria, Sangasanga, East Kalimantan, on April 22, 2026. A total of 74 students and accompanying lecturers from the Petroleum Engineering program had the opportunity to observe upstream oil and gas operations and various production facilities, including production wells, oil and water separation tanks, crude oil tanks, and water injection (WI) facilities.

The STT Migas Balikpapan students, who are currently in their third year of study, gained deeper insight into workflows within the upstream oil and gas industry. They received technical explanations regarding the oil production process, from wells to gathering stations. This visit serves as a bridge between theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom and its practical application in the field.

Assistant Manager Petroleum Engineer of PEP Sangasanga Field, Ivan Oriza Sativa, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continuously support human capital development in the energy sector through collaboration with educational institutions. He also emphasized the importance of continuous learning in the professional world. “The ability to collaborate and continuously learn amid change is key to building competencies in the workplace, including in the upstream oil and gas industry,” he stated.

Upon arrival at the site, all participants underwent a registration process and a daily check-up (DCU) to ensure their health conditions before participating in the activities. This was followed by a safety briefing delivered by PEP Sangasanga Field representatives as part of the company’s commitment to occupational health and safety.

In his remarks, Markus Lumbaa, a supervising lecturer from STT Migas Balikpapan, expressed his hopes for sustained collaboration between academia and industry. Previously, many of our students have conducted field visits and even internships at PEP Sangasanga Field. We hope this activity will further strengthen the relationship between our institution and the company,” he said.

The series of activities continued with a company profile presentation that provided a comprehensive overview of Pertamina EP’s business processes, particularly operations at the Sangasanga Field. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, demonstrating participants’ enthusiasm for gaining a deeper understanding of upstream oil and gas operations in the field.

One participant, Achmad Haydir, stated that the activity provided significant added value to students. “This activity offers real insight into the industrial work environment through direct field observation. We not only observed the physical objects and work environment but also understood the functions and working principles of the equipment used in operational processes. Direct interaction with systems and equipment provides a clearer understanding compared to theoretical learning in the classroom,” he explained.

In addition, participants also learned about the fundamental implementation of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices as a crucial aspect of maintaining workplace safety and operational sustainability. “Through this experience, we gained a more comprehensive perspective on industry standards and the challenges faced in the field,” Haydir added.

Meanwhile, Manager of Communication Relations & CID at PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia, Dony Indrawan, stated that the company’s support for these educational visits reflects its commitment to fulfilling its corporate social and environmental responsibility, particularly in the education sector.

According to him, in addition to educational visits, PHI and its subsidiaries and affiliates, including PEP Sangasanga, also organize internship and practical work programs as a strategic step to support the development of Indonesia’s human capital and prepare future company talent. “At PHI, we believe that education is one of the main foundations for building an independent and knowledgeable society, as well as a better future for the next generation,” he concluded.
