Tabalong – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tanjung Field, in collaboration with Pertamina Tanjung Hospital (RSPT) and the local Community Health Center (Puskesmas), held an Education Session on Stunting Prevention and a Nutritious Cooking Demonstration at the Jirak Village Hall, Pugaan District, Tabalong, South Kalimantan, on September 11, 2025. This activity reflected the Company’s commitment to implementing its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs that support the government’s priority agenda to accelerate national stunting reduction efforts.
The educational event, themed Together We Fight Stunting to Build the Golden Generation of Jirak Village, was attended by stunting cadres, pregnant women, postpartum mothers, mothers with stunted children, and prospective brides.
Field Manager of PEP Tanjung Field, Charlie P. Nainggolan, reaffirmed the Company’s commitment to carrying out CSR programs in the health sector as part of the implementation of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. “Through this activity, the Company supported efforts to build collective awareness and take real action in preventing stunting, including through education and the distribution of additional nutritious food,” he explained.
Participants showed great enthusiasm during presentations by experts such as Dr. Azhar, Sp.A from RSPT, Harliani, Head of Pugaan Health Center, and Rosita, a nutritionist. They explained the importance of balanced nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding, hygiene and sanitation, and child growth stimulation in simple language that was easy for participants to understand.
In addition to the presentation sessions, participants actively engaged in discussions and Q&A. They raised questions about children’s nutrition, preparing healthy meals, and recognizing early signs of stunting. The highlight of the event was a cooking demonstration featuring nutritious dishes made from haruan (snakehead fish), a high-protein local ingredient abundant in Jirak Village. The demonstration not only provided practical knowledge but also encouraged communities to utilize local food sources to improve family nutrition.
Stunting is a multidimensional issue that requires a comprehensive approach. For this reason, PEP Tanjung Field and RSPT emphasized three key pillars in this initiative: education to raise community awareness, intervention through additional food provision and regular health checkups, and sustainability by engaging local cadres and communities, including through haruan fish farming training as a sustainable protein source for children.
One of the participants, Adhyani, appreciated the initiative. “The clear explanations and cooking demonstration of high-protein dishes not only gave us new knowledge but also motivated the community to work together to prevent stunting for the sake of our future generations,” she said.
Meanwhile, Manager of Communication, Relations & CID at PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), Dony Indrawan, emphasized the Company’s commitment in ensuring that upstream oil and gas operations contribute to economic growth, community self-reliance, and environmental sustainability in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “Through this program, we hope the Company’s presence will continue to support public health improvement by promoting education and skills in preparing nutritious local food,” he said.
He added that the Company’s CSR programs are developed based on social mapping of villages around operational areas to ensure positive impact and long-term sustainability. “One of our CSR initiatives, the Kuas Jirak Program, has successfully promoted the use of the village’s abundant freshwater fish into high-value derivative products by enhancing the skills and productivity of local women’s groups,” Dony added.
The stunting prevention education and nutritious cooking demonstration in Jirak Village marked an important step toward fostering a healthy, nutrition-conscious community culture, supporting the creation of a golden generation from Jirak Village for a better future for Indonesia.
