Balikpapan – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field and Sangatta Field recorded an increase in oil and gas lifting commercialization through a Gas Sales and Purchase Agreement/Perjanjian Jual Beli Gas (PJBG) with PLN Tanjung Batu, delivering gas of 8.019 MMSCFD. This achievement drove higher gas sales performance as of September 22, 2025, compared to the monthly target. Through this commercialization, the average monthly revenue in 2025 increased by approximately Rp3.9 billion above the committed sales target.

This successful commercialization was supported by a Facility Sharing Agreement (FSA) between PEP Sangasanga Field, PEP Sangatta Field, and PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS), all of which operate under Pertamina Subholding Upstream Zona 9. The synergy enabled a more efficient and economical gas delivery process to PLN Tanjung Batu without the need to construct a new pipeline.

Manager of Subsurface Development Area (SDA) 2 Zona 9, Ade Lukman, expressed appreciation for the success in opening this commercialization opportunity through innovation and collaboration among entities within Zona 9. “Hard work and smart work turned what was once considered impossible into reality through this achievement. This breakthrough serves as both inspiration and motivation to remain optimistic in facing the challenges of managing mature wells,” he said.

The year 2025 marked the beginning of gas commercialization from the Anggana and South Kutai Lama Fields under the PEP Sangasanga Field. This initiative was combined with optimizing gas utilization at PEP Sangatta Field, where gas previously allocated for operational needs was reallocated to gas sales wells. This adjustment contributed to the smooth delivery of gas to PLN Tanjung Batu.

In addition, according to Ade, the installation of the Booster Compressor Very Low Pressure (VLP) equipment in the Binangat area also supported the flow of low-pressure gas from the Sambutan Field, allowing gas sales to exceed the target by more than 150 percent. “This breakthrough serves as an important milestone in re-optimizing the potential of mature wells in the area,” he added.

Senior Manager of Subsurface Development & Planning, Supriady, stated that the achievement resulted from sustainable and precise drilling strategies to open new investment opportunities. “Through this approach, we continue to invest in exploration to discover new resources, increase reserves, and boost gas production for national energy sustainability,” said Supriady.

Since 2022, through the implementation of PJBG, gas from the Sangasanga and Sangatta Fields has been optimized into an economically valuable energy source, providing a significant contribution to the Company’s revenue. Previously, the gas production supported operational fuel needs at the Anggana Field (PEP Sangasanga Field) and the Semberah Field (PEP Sangatta Field).

The gas commercialization initiative by PEP Sangasanga Field and Sangatta Field not only enhanced operational efficiency and corporate revenue but also strengthened the Company’s business performance, supporting sustainable investment and oil and gas production in line with the government’s Asta Cita vision of achieving national energy self-sufficiency.
