Supporting Environmental Conservation, Local Heroes Fostered by PHSS CSR Program Present Their Teeth in the 2025 Kutai Kartanegara Youth Inspiration Award Competition

Muara Badak– PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS), by way of the social and environmental responsibility or CSR program “Jaga Pesisir Kita,” has successfully supported the participation of one of its local heroes, Nurul Fatihah, as a participant in 2025 Kutai Kartanegara Youth Pioneer Field Assessment Activity and Youth Inspiration Award Competition. Nurul is a member of the Pesona Pangempang Tourism Awareness Group/Kelompok Sadar Wisata (Pokdarwis), fostered by the PHSS CSR program. The activity took place in the Pangempang coastal tourism area, Tanjung Limau Village, Muara Badak District, on Sunday (5/25/2025).

The Youth and Sports Service/Dinas Kepemudaan dan Olahraga (Diaspora) of Kutai Kartanegara Regency, as the organizer, stated that the purpose of this activity was to express appreciation for the significant contributions of young people in managing natural resources, preserving the environment, and developing community-based tourism. The event was attended by various stakeholders, including representatives from the Kutai Kartanegara Regency Marine and Fisheries Service, and the Kutai Kartanegara Regency Environment and Forestry Service, village officials, and fostered community groups such as Pokmaswas Bina Lestari, UMKM Wanita Tani Nelayan Pesisir Sejahtera, PKK Chairperson, and community leaders of Tanjung Limau Village.

In the presentation session before the assessment team and stakeholders, Nurul showcased various initiatives carried out in collaboration with the community to maintain the sustainability of the Pangempang coastal area. As part of the Regeneration of Local Heroes initiative in the “Jaga Pantai Kita” program, Nurul is actively involved in various coastal environmental conservation efforts, including community education activities, the involvement of local youth, mangrove conservation, and the development of sustainable tourism destinations, such as river and beach tours.

As part of the participant assessment activities, the judges were invited to conduct direct reviews of several strategic locations, including the Mangrove Nursery, the Mangrove Conservation Area, and natural tourism destinations that are the mainstay of the Pangempang area.

Tanjung Limau Village Head, Suriyandi, A.Md., expressed his appreciation for the support of all parties in encouraging local youth to become the driving force for environmental preservation. "We are proud that one of the young women from our area, Nurul Fatihah, is a representative in this event. Her enthusiasm is an example for other young generations. We also thank PHSS for the support in assisting the community, including in strengthening the capacity of the youth," he said.

PHSS Field Manager Iva Kurnia Mahardi stated that PHSS's support for the development of local youth demonstrates the company's commitment to fostering synergy among the private sector, the community, and the government in a collective effort to preserve the environment. "Strengthening the capacity of local youth is not only a long-term social investment but also an important foundation in creating inclusive, sustainable change that has a direct impact on the progress of the company's operational areas," he said.

Meanwhile, the Communication Relations & CID Manager of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia explained that the various CSR programs implemented by the company aim to support environmental preservation and the development of ecotourism in the areas surrounding the company's operational sites. "We believe that environmental sustainability will support the success and sustainability of the company's operations and business while providing better hope for the future of the earth," he said.

According to him, the company continues to invest in innovative Corporate Social Responsibility programs in line with the direction and policies of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, as a Subholding of Upstream, and PT Pertamina (Persero).

"Developing the capacity of the younger generation to be actively involved in environmental management and utilization of local resources is important to ensure that the efforts that have been made will continue to survive and provide a significant impact now and in the future," he concluded.
