Tabalong – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tanjung Field once again held a Tree Planting Program, which took place from August 19 to 21, 2025, in five PROKLIM (Climate Village Program) partner villages: Masukau, Kasiau, Belimbing, Jirak, and Bintang Ara, located in Tabalong Regency, South Kalimantan.
PROKLIM is a strategic initiative aligned with national targets to reduce carbon emissions while also strengthening community resilience to the impacts of climate change.
The tree-planting activities began on August 19, 2025, in Bintang Ara Village, marked by strong community participation and collaboration. Village officials, community leaders, and residents joined together to plant tree seedlings in designated areas. On August 20, 2025, the program continued simultaneously in three areas: Belimbing, Kasiau, and Masukau, before concluding on August 21 in Jirak Village, with active participation from local communities, employees, and PEP Tanjung Field management. This underscored the importance of synergy in creating long-term environmental benefits.
Field Manager of PEP Tanjung Field, Charlie Parmonangan Nainggolan, emphasized the company’s commitment to implementing sustainability principles to manage the impact of upstream oil and gas operations on surrounding communities and the environment. “Aligned with the sustainability policies of PHE and PT Pertamina (Persero), we are committed to carrying out emission reduction initiatives such as this tree planting program, energy efficiency, waste management, flora and fauna conservation, and the use of renewable energy in our upstream oil and gas operations,” he stated.
The initiative was well-received by the community, with appreciation from Kastalani, the official of Bintang Ara Village. He said, “We are grateful to PEP Tanjung Field for facilitating this tree planting program for PROKLIM Villages. This initiative helps us strengthen environmental awareness in Tabalong. We hope that the PROKLIM program can serve as an example for other villages to become more environmentally conscious, as environmental care must begin with our collective awareness.” Over the three-day program, 70 tree seedlings were successfully planted across the five PROKLIM partner villages.
Meanwhile, Dony Indrawan, Manager of Communication Relations & CID at PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), explained that PHI and its subsidiaries, which operate across Kalimantan, have consistently conducted tree-planting programs around the company’s operational areas in East, North, and South Kalimantan. “The tree planting program in five PROKLIM villages represents an important step in delivering tangible contributions to environmental reforestation while fostering collective community awareness to care for ecosystem sustainability,” he explained.
According to Dony, during the 2023–2024 period, PHI and its subsidiaries planted more than 600,000 trees, including mangroves, endemic Kalimantan species, and fruit trees, around upstream oil and gas operations in Kalimantan, supporting flora and fauna conservation and contributing to carbon emission reduction. “We do not carry out this program alone; we continue to collaborate with stakeholders to conduct tree planting around our operational areas in Kalimantan. We believe these efforts support ecosystem restoration, carbon emission reduction, and environmental preservation that are critical for the future of humanity and our planet,” he concluded.
Every tree planted symbolizes the shared commitment of PEP Tanjung Field and the local communities to create a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient future. The tree planting initiative in PROKLIM partner villages is expected to inspire other villages and regions across Kalimantan and Indonesia to undertake similar actions in support of sustainable development and long-term environmental resilience.
