Successfully Becoming a Village Tourist Attraction, PT Pertamina Hulu East Kalimantan Re-Planted Shrimp Pine Trees in Marangkayu.

Marangkayu– PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) planted 200 Cemara Udang tree seedlings at Pantai Biru Kersik, Marangkayu District, on Monday (June 30, 2025). This activity is part of the Company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, supporting environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, and coastal community empowerment through a collaborative approach between the Company, the government, and the community.

The Kersik Village Head attended the event, along with members of the Muspika (Regional Leadership Coordination Forum) and various community groups, including the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), Karang Taruna (Youth Organization), Sahabat Mangrove (Mangrove Friends), and the Kersik Berseri Waste Bank. The tree planting was carried out simultaneously by the participants along the designated coastline.

PHKT's Santan Terminal Superintendent, Muhammad Yasin, stated that the tree-planting activity has become a strategic effort to maintain ecosystem sustainability and support a more beautiful and comfortable environment. "We believe that environmental preservation is a long-term investment for life. Through planting today, we hope to create a healthy ecosystem and provide greenery for future generations," he said.

For years, PHKT, a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), together with its subsidiaries and other affiliates, has been planting trees in various areas surrounding the Company's operations. "We planted various types of trees, including mangroves, shrimp pines, fruit trees, and native or endemic trees from Kalimantan," said Yasin.

In his remarks, Jumadi, the Village Head of Kersik, expressed his appreciation and support for this tree-planting activity. "We are very grateful that this activity continues. PHKT's shrimp pine planting in 2022 has shown tangible results. The trees are now growing lushly and have become a major attraction at the Kersik Village tourist camping ground managed by the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis). This is proof that consistent, collaborative efforts have a positive impact, both environmentally and economically, on the community," he said.

Meanwhile, Dony Indrawan, Manager of Communication Relations & CID PHI, emphasized the Company's commitment to implementing programs that support environmental sustainability, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) also launched by PT Pertamina (Persero), specifically Goal 13 on Climate Change Management, Goal 14 on Marine Ecosystem Protection, Goal 15 on Terrestrial Ecosystem Protection, and Goal 17 on Partnerships to Achieve the Goals.

"To realize this commitment, we collaborate and synergize fully with all stakeholders, especially local governments and local communities, in the planning and implementation of environmental management programs," he explained.

He added that this activity also serves as a means of educating the public about the importance of coastal conservation and encouraging active citizen participation in sustainable environmental protection. "We hope this activity can continue to be developed and expanded to other coastal areas so that its impact can be felt more widely by the community," Dony added.

Throughout 2024, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, the PHI group planted 118,463 trees. This concrete action demonstrates the Company's commitment to climate change mitigation through forest and coastal ecosystem conservation efforts, as outlined in Pertamina's sustainability policy, and supports the achievement of the net-zero emissions target by 2060.
