Successful Trial Operation of Bekapai Artificial Lift, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Increases Oil Production

Jakarta - PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), with the support of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), has completed the Bekapai Artificial Lift (BKPAL) Project in the Mahakam Work Area, East Kalimantan. On May 24, 2024, the gas-lift injection into the wells at the existing Bekapai platform marked the first gas-in or onstream stage. After a 72-hour nonstop trial operation, the BKPAL Project was declared complete and ready for operation on June 2, 2024.

Setyo Sapto Edi, General Manager of PHM, stated that the BKPAL Project is an important and innovative initiative expected to support an additional production of 2,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD). "PHM is committed to continuing safe, effective, excellent, and environmentally friendly upstream oil and gas operations, ensuring that the Mahakam Work Area can sustainably produce oil and gas while significantly contributing to the increase of reserves and the achievement of national oil and gas production targets," explained Setyo.

Furthermore, Setyo added that PHM continues to invest in exploration drilling activities and field development drilling to discover new resources. "We apply best practices to maintain production levels and mitigate the natural decline in production, supporting Indonesia's energy security achievements," Setyo noted.

BKPAL is a project involving the installation of a 12 MMSCFD Gas Lift Compressor on the existing Bekapai BA platform. Gas lift will be injected into the wells at the existing Bekapai BG and BL platforms. The production from the BKPAL Project will be exported through the Senipah Field Terminal.
