Bunyu Island, North Kalimantan– PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Bunyu Field, in collaboration with SMP Negeri 01 Bunyu, successfully held a Fire Emergency Response Training on Saturday, February 8, 2025. The program involved students, teachers, school staff, cafeteria workers, and local community members to improve awareness and preparedness in handling fire-related emergencies. The event opened with remarks from the Principal of SMP Negeri 01 Bunyu, Dra. Eko Setyowati, M.Pd., and PEP Bunyu Field representative Webi Ardiansyah, both of whom emphasized the importance of emergency preparedness.
Participants were introduced to basic fire emergency response knowledge, including an overview of different types of fire extinguishers/Alat Pemadam Api Ringan (APAR) and their proper use. They also observed a live fire suppression demonstration before applying their skills in a hands-on practice session, where they used fire extinguishers and fire blankets to put out controlled fires.
Senior Manager of PEP Bunyu Field, Despredi Akbar, highlighted that the training was designed to provide participants with essential skills for responding to fires quickly, safely, and effectively. "This program serves as an educational platform for students, teachers, and school staff, ensuring they are better equipped to handle emergencies," he said. According to Despredi, the training aimed to increase awareness and preparedness for fire emergencies, minimize fire risks and potential damage, foster a culture of safety within the school, build confidence in handling emergencies, educate on fire prevention measures, strengthen collaboration between schools and companies, and develop a disaster-ready generation
"The knowledge and skills gained from this training will benefit the school environment, homes, and communities. Students who participate in this training can become safety ambassadors, helping to raise awareness and preparedness in their surroundings," he added.
PEP Bunyu Field remains committed to strengthening stakeholder partnerships to enhance emergency preparedness and resilience.
