Strengthening Preparedness, PT Pertamina EP Bunyu Field Engages Community in Emergency Simulation

Bunyu Island, North Kalimantan– PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Bunyu Field successfully conducted a Major Emergency Drill at its Loading Terminal on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM WITA. The simulation involved the local community near the company's operational facilities in Bunyu Island and aimed to test the Emergency Response Plan (ERP). The exercise also served as a training platform for emergency response teams, including the Fire Brigade, Medical Team, Security Team, and the Site Emergency Response Team (SERT).

Ahead of the simulation, PEP Bunyu Field conducted a safety outreach program on December 24, 2024. The program introduced evacuation routes, emergency contact numbers, and safety procedures to residents of RT 01 and RT 02 in South Bunyu and RT 07, 08, 14, and 15 in West Bunyu. Members of the Tagana teams from South and West Bunyu also participated.

Senior Manager of PEP Bunyu Field, Despredi Akbar, highlighted the importance of emergency simulations in ensuring readiness and safety for employees and the local community. "This drill is essential in enhancing our ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies while fostering a shared commitment to safety," Despredi remarked.

The simulation scenario involved an operational error leading to an oil spill from Tank T-01, which resulted in a fire caused by sparks from nearby fireworks. The coordinated efforts of the emergency response teams successfully extinguished the fire within 45 minutes, with the area declared safe by 8:56 PM WITA. The scenario also included a minor injury case, where the affected individual received immediate treatment at the PEP Field Bunyu Clinic.

Despredi expressed gratitude to all participants and reaffirmed the company's dedication to maintaining safety as a National Vital Object. "Our efforts to enhance emergency preparedness not only safeguard our operations but also contribute to the sustainability of oil and gas production, which is critical to supporting the nation's energy resilience," he stated.

PEP Bunyu Field is committed to involving all stakeholders in strengthening emergency preparedness and resilience. "We believe that close collaboration between the company and the community is key to creating a safe and productive environment," Despredi concluded.
