Kutai Kartanegara – The education-focused CSR initiative of PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), known as the Sekolah Negeri Terapung (Floating Public School) Program, has helped SMPN 4 Anggana in Kutai Kartanegara earn two significant achievements at the provincial and national levels. The school received the 2025 East Kalimantan Provincial Adiwiyata Award during the Environment Day commemoration in June and the Affirmation Award at the 2025 Indonesian Genomics Olympiad (OGI) held in Jakarta from August 22–24, 2025.
The Adiwiyata Award was presented directly by the Governor of East Kalimantan, Rudy Mas’ud, to the Acting Principal of SMPN 4 Anggana, Muhammad Samsiar. This recognition highlights the school’s commitment to building an environmentally conscious culture through policies, environmentally based curricula, participatory activities, and eco-friendly infrastructure management.
Meanwhile, the Affirmation Award at the 2025 Indonesian Genomics Olympiad recognized one of SMPN 4 Anggana’s students among seven recipients nationwide from designated regions. The OGI is a prestigious competition in molecular biology and genetics, bringing together students from across Indonesia. Beyond testing academic skills, it also honors students who demonstrate strong dedication, resilience, and potential in scientific development, providing valuable exposure and confidence-building for young learners in the field of science.
Head of Communication, Relations & CID of Zona 8, Achmad Krisna Hadiyanto, expressed pride in the school’s achievements and reaffirmed PHM’s commitment to improving education quality, particularly for schools around its operational areas. “Our education programs aim to support government initiatives in strengthening educational infrastructure, empowering local institutions, and developing human resource capacity across our operational areas in Kalimantan,” Achmad explained.
PHM’s involvement in education reflects its commitment to sustainable community development. “We believe that education is one of the key foundations for building independent, knowledgeable communities and ensuring a better future for the next generation,” he added.
Over the past few years, PHM’s Sekolah Negeri Terapung Program has provided ongoing support to schools in the Anggana sub-district. This includes providing learning facilities, teacher training, and literacy enhancement initiatives. These efforts have played a significant role in helping SMPN 4 Anggana achieve academic success and continuously improve its education quality.
Principal Muhammad Samsiar expressed his gratitude and pride in the school’s accomplishments. “These awards are the result of collaboration among the entire school community, teachers, staff, students, parents, and the surrounding community. We remain committed to integrating environmental values into both learning and daily activities,” he said.
He also noted that PHM’s continuous support has inspired both teachers and students to strive for better learning outcomes. “We hope these recognitions will spark even greater achievements in the future,” he concluded.
The collaboration between the education sector, the community, and industry demonstrates a positive and encouraging impact. This success serves as an inspiration for the people of Anggana and beyond, showing that the quality of education thrives through consistent cooperation and shared commitment.
