Kutai Kartanegara - Sangasanga Field, an upstream oil and gas field of Pertamina EP (PEP) which is part of Pertamina’s Zone 9 Subholding Upstream Regional 3 Kalimantan, held a reforestation event to plant 500 rain trees and mahogany on 27 August 2021. The event was a collaboration between PEP Sangasanga Field and its two fostered partners, Karya Teratai Community Group and Setaria Farmers’ Group.
In the event, 500 rain trees (Samanea saman) and mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni) were planted in the vicinity of LSE 1080 well. The field activity was carried out following a strict health protocol. Present in the event were Senior Manager of Sangasanga Field, Gondo Irawan, and Muspika (District Leadership Coordination) Sangasanga, which included: Head of Sangasanga Sub-district, Gunawan, Sangasanga’s Police Chief, Iptu (First Police Inspector) Agus Fitrianto, and Danramil (Commander of Military Area) Sangasanga, Captain Agus.
In his opening speech, Gondo stated that environment protection is the company’s commitment, therefore, the company fully supported this event. “With this reforestation effort, we hope the communities around here will prosper because we keep the quality of their environment. Hopefully, natural disasters like flood and landslides will decline with our efforts maintaining environment quality,” he said. Gunawan enthusiastically refilled the hole in which he planted a mahogany tree and said, “Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I wed you tree with the land, with soil and water as the dowry. Hopefully you’ll grow lushly to sustain the environment for our descendants in Sangasanga in particular, and in Indonesia in general, and you may even benefit the world.”
The communities involved in the reforestation were also enthusiastic. They generally hoped that efforts like this can improve people’s awareness in sustaining the environment where they live.
Based on SKK Migas Integrated Operating System (SOT) data dated 30 August 2021 year-to-date, PEP Sangasanga’s crude oil production reached 4,976 BOPD and gas production reached around 3.34 feet cubic per day.
