Tarakan, North Kalimantan– The Sobat Bumi Kalimantan Scholarship Program (BSBK) has been a lifeline for Suci Nur Hikmah, a student from Tarakan, North Kalimantan, allowing her to pursue higher education. After losing her father, she now lives with her mother, a homemaker, and her two siblings amidst economic hardship. Despite these challenges, Suci has shown remarkable academic dedication since high school.
Suci is one of the 15 talented young people from Kalimantan who was awarded the BSBK scholarship. She has been accepted into the Management Department at Borneo University Tarakan. The BSBK Program is a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) in education, in collaboration with Pertamina Foundation (PF) as the implementing partner. It supports youth education in Kalimantan and aligns with the government’s vision of a Golden Indonesia by 2045.
Growing up in a modest family, Suci has developed a strong motivation to achieve higher education and secure a better future. “I am extremely grateful and happy to be selected as a BSBK recipient. Thanks to Pertamina Hulu Indonesia, I can continue my education without worrying about costs. I also hope this program will continue to succeed and help others in need,” Suci expressed with emotion.
Suci’s academic success earned her the top rank in her class, which helped her secure a place through the Achievement-Based National Selection Pathway (SNBP) at Borneo University Tarakan. In addition to her academic achievements, Suci is active in various school organizations, including the Organisasi Siswa Intra Sekolah (OSIS) and the Green Team, through which she promotes environmental awareness among her peers. She aspires to become a successful entrepreneur and environmental advocate, aligning with BSBK’s mission to inspire young people to care for sustainability and ecological conservation.
Beyond financial assistance, BSBK encourages recipients to participate actively in and contribute to various environmental conservation initiatives. The funding for BSBK is fully supported by PHI subsidiaries, including PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS), and PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT). This year marks the program’s first year, which is part of the company’s commitment to advancing education and environmental conservation in Kalimantan.
Dony Indrawan, PHI’s Manager of Communication Relations & CID, stated that the BSBK Program is PHI’s tangible commitment to supporting quality education in Kalimantan. “This program is one of our efforts to provide higher education opportunities for high-achieving children from underprivileged families in Kalimantan. We hope this program produces graduates who excel academically and contribute positively to regional and national development,” said Dony.
Through the inspiring story of Suci Nur Hikmah, PHI hopes the BSBK Program will continue to be a source of hope and motivation for Kalimantan’s younger generation. With hard work, dedication, and full support from PHI, the company is committed to supporting young people who have the potential to become future leaders and bring positive change to society.
