PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga Strengthens Ecotourism Infrastructure in Perangat Selatan Village through Sustainable CSR Program

Marangkayu, East Kalimantan – Continuing its support for village tourism development, PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) officially handed over infrastructure assistance as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. The assistance included one gazebo unit and a four-door toilet building delivered to the Government of Perangat Selatan Village. The handover occurred on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Embung Ecotourism area in RT 02, Dusun I Wonorejo, Perangat Selatan Village, Marangkayu District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. Representatives from the company and the Perangat Selatan Village Government attended the event.

PHSS Field Manager Iva Kurnia Mahardi explained that PHSS, together with other subsidiaries of PHI, continuously promotes community empowerment and environmental preservation in its operational areas. “We believe that the sustainability of our upstream oil and gas operations and business, which are vital for national energy supply, must be supported by the development of self-reliant communities and environmental conservation,” Iva stated.

According to her, the infrastructure support continues the previous CSR programs carried out by PHSS in earlier years. The company previously provided two shophouse units in 2022, followed by another in 2023. Most recently, we handed over one gazebo and one toilet building on Monday, April 28, 2025,” she added.

Perangat Selatan Village Head, Sarkono, expressed his appreciation to PHSS for its tangible contribution to its development. "I would like to extend my gratitude to PHSS for the support in the form of a gazebo and toilet facility to help develop the Embung Ecotourism area in Perangat Selatan Village. As one of PHSS’s fostered villages, we hope this support will continue,” said Sarkono.

Located on the strategic Samarinda–Bontang corridor, the Embung Ecotourism area is utilized by the local community and the village-owned enterprise BUMDes Parangsel Jaya as a gathering space and a platform to showcase the village’s culinary specialties. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the local community to increase Village Original Revenue/Pendapatan Asli Desa. “Through infrastructure development and the proper arrangement of facilities, we hope this area will offer comfort for visitors and attract potential investors, ultimately delivering a positive economic impact for the people of Perangat Selatan,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dony Indrawan, Manager of Communication Relations & CID at PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), stated that as the holding company, PHI consistently encourages its subsidiaries and affiliates to implement innovative and sustainable CSR programs that deliver significant benefits to the communities and environments where they operate. “This infrastructure support is part of PHSS's CSR Program, focusing on the economic and environmental sectors, particularly in developing supporting facilities for ecotourism in fostered villages,” he explained.

According to Dony, the CSR programs and activities carried out by PHSS in Perangat Selatan Village reflect the company’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 8 on sustainable economic growth and SDG 12 on responsible consumption and production. “We are committed to implementing CSR programs that promote community development and self-sufficiency, in alignment with the SDGs,” he concluded.
