Balikpapan– PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) welcomed a Specific Working Visit/Kunjungan Kerja Spesifik (Kunspek) from Commission XII DPR RI, which oversees the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) sector, in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday (02/16/2025). The visit was part of Commission XII's supervisory function regarding upstream oil and gas operations and production activities in the Sanga Sanga Working Area (WK), managed by PHSS as the operator and contractor for the Government of Indonesia.

Aqib Aridansyah led this visit. Also present were officials from the Ministry of Environment, including Deputy for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control Rasio Ridho Sani, Director of Environmental Complaints and Supervision Ardyanto Nugroho, and Director of Water Quality Protection and Management Firdaus Alim Damopoli, as well as the Director of Oil and Gas Technical and Environment from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Noor Arifin Muhammad. Representing PHSS, the company's management team was led by Director Sunaryanto.

The purpose of the visit was to gather comprehensive data and information regarding PHSS's performance, the challenges faced, and the support needed, including environmental management aspects. "Commission XII of the DPR RI is ready to provide the necessary support to ensure the oil and gas industry operates optimally and benefits the community," said Aqib. He emphasized that, in addition to its controlling, budgeting, and legislative functions, Commission XII also serves a problem-solving role.

PHSS Director Sunaryanto expressed his hope that the visit would strengthen the good relationship between the legislature and relevant stakeholders in implementing government policies. "Constructive discussions can provide new insights and contribute positively to the progress of the oil and gas sector and the achievement of national energy self-sufficiency in line with the government's Asta Cita vision," he said.

During the meeting, PHSS presented various efforts to support national oil and gas production through innovations and initiatives. These include plans to drill 40-60 development wells per year, conduct approximately 3,000 well intervention jobs annually, and improve gas compression system efficiency. Additionally, PHSS implements a borderless synergy approach with other working areas (WK) under the management of Zona 9 of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding for both operational and exploration and development programs.

Responding to public concerns regarding reports of shellfish harvest failures in Tanjung Limau Village, Muara Badak District, PHSS expressed concern about the incident during the rainy season and acknowledged the difficulties faced by the affected community in Muara Badak, Kutai Kartanegara.
