Kutai Kartanegara– PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) has successfully expanded access to clean water for the community in Muara Badak District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, through the replication of its Community Development Program, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Water Supply System (WSS). Following the successful implementation in Saliki Village, PHSS initiated a similar program in Salo Cella Village to provide clean water access for residents not yet connected to the regional water utility network (PDAM).

Head of Communication Relations & CID for Zona 9 of Pertamina Upstream Subholding, Elis Fauziyah, stated that the WSS program aligns with the company's commitment to supporting community self-sufficiency and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation and Goal 13 on Climate Action. "We are committed to implementing CSR programs that go beyond mere assistance and aim to enhance community self-sufficiency sustainably," said Elis.

According to her, the implementation of the WSS Program in Salo Cella Village located approximately 27 km from Saliki Village, is being carried out in stages. Initiated in 2023, PHSS began by constructing water filtration facilities in Neighborhood Units (RT) 08 and 10 to process water for safe consumption. In 2024, the company expanded the program by installing 21 household connections (SR) in RT 08 and 20 SR in RT 10. Additionally, for residents in RT 09, a water filtration system has been installed to provide access to clean and safe water.

Elis added that PHSS collaborates with all stakeholders in implementing innovative CSR programs like the WSS initiative, aiming to create shared value that benefits the community. "This program is a result of strong collaboration between the company and the local village government," she emphasized.

To ensure the program's sustainability, the WSS system is managed directly by the Head of Community Welfare (Kasi Kesra) of Salo Cella Village, who is responsible for supporting the village head in community development and empowerment. Moreover, a low maintenance fee scheme has been introduced to ensure that all residents have continuous and affordable access to clean water.

The head of RT 10 in Salo Cella Village, Samsuddin, expressed his appreciation to PHSS for its contribution to providing clean water access for the residents. "We are very grateful to PHSS for the support provided. With these distribution pipelines, clean water can finally reach the homes of residents who previously struggled to access it," he said.

Meanwhile, PHSS Field Manager Widhiarto Imam Subarkah reaffirmed the company's commitment to developing innovative programs that deliver positive social and environmental impacts. Of course, we cannot achieve this alone—collaboration with stakeholders, including the community and local government, is key to the success and sustainability of these programs," he explained.
