Balikpapan– PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) has reached another significant milestone by winning the Gold Award at the 2024 Indonesia Corporate Sustainability Award (ICSA) in the Best Practice in Circular Economy Project category. The award ceremony at The Stones Hotel Bali, held on November 20, 2024, recognized PHM's innovative sustainability efforts. The award was presented by Dr. Indah Budiani, Executive Director of the Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD). It was accepted by Johannes Anton Wibowo, Production Superintendent of the Senipah Terminal & Right-of-Way, accompanied by Hosna Wiranto Nasution, Manager of the Senipah, Peciko, and South Mahakam Site.
This accolade underscores PHM's success in adopting circular economy principles through its UBUKI (Untuk Bumi Kita) program. The initiative repurposes used coveralls into eco-friendly products, including shoes, showcasing PHM's commitment to sustainability and innovation.
PHM collects hundreds of used coveralls each year from its various operational sites. In 2023 alone, over 800 coveralls, equivalent to 900 kilograms of waste, were gathered, a number expected to grow in subsequent years. Due to the embedded company logos and employee identifiers, this waste could pose environmental and safety challenges without proper disposal. The UBUKI program transforms this potential hazard into an opportunity by creating innovative, sustainable solutions that add value to the environment and community.
PHM's General Manager, Setyo Sapto Edi, highlighted the program's impact in his remarks. "UBUKI exemplifies PHM's commitment to sustainability by addressing environmental challenges and creating economic opportunities. It is clear proof that innovative actions aligned with ESG principles can generate tangible benefits for the environment and society," he stated.
The Indonesia Corporate Sustainability Award 2024 celebrates companies, individuals, and organizations that demonstrate an exemplary commitment to integrating sustainability principles into their operations. The award recognizes outstanding initiatives across various industries, particularly in environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and governance.
