Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam— PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) once again achieved international recognition by securing two prestigious awards at the 17th Annual Global CSR & ESG Summit 2025, held on February 26, 2025. This year's event, "Scaling Impact and Redefining Value in Sustainability," brought together over 200 experts, practitioners, NGOs, and media partners from various countries.
As a PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) subsidiary, PHM was awarded Gold in the Empowerment of Women category for its Wasteco (Waste to Energy for Community) program. This initiative empowers women living near the Manggar Final Waste Processing Site (TPAS) by engaging them in converting organic waste into methane gas for household use. Additionally, the methane gas generated through Wasteco supports the production of Berkah Gas Metana MSME products, further fostering economic growth in the community.
Manager of Communication Relations & CID PHI, Dony Indrawan, expressed his delight at PHM's achievement, highlighting the external recognition of the company's successful CSR initiatives that create real impacts for local communities. "This award serves as motivation for us to continue delivering the best for both the environment and the communities where we operate," he stated.
Dony also reaffirmed the company's commitment to implementing innovative and sustainable CSR programs. "We strongly believe that sustainable and innovative CSR initiatives can help foster self-sufficient communities," he added.
In addition to the Gold award, PHM also received the Silver award for Best Environmental Excellence for its Renewable Energy Program in the Mahakam Delta (BEST and Kembang Bersinar). This initiative has significantly benefited remote coastal villages such as Sepatin Village, Tani Baru Village (Anggana District), and Muara Kembang Village (Muara Jawa District) in Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province. Through this program, PHM has provided 366 units of Solar Home Systems (SHS), 3 Solar Power Plants (PLTS), and Technical training for local communities on SHS and PLTS maintenance.
This initiative aims to enhance affordable solar energy access, ensure reliable electricity for daily activities, and support environmental conservation by reducing greenhouse gas emissions through diesel fuel savings.
At a separate location, Frans Alexander A. Hukom, Head of Communication Relations & CID PHM, emphasized that these awards are a testament to PHM's commitment to sustainability practices that create positive social and environmental impacts.
He explained that PHM's CSR programs align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by actively involving stakeholders, local communities, and regional governments in developing initiatives based on local potential.
For instance, the Renewable Energy Program (EBT) and Wasteco contribute to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation and support the following SDGs objectives: Goal 7: Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all, Goal 8: Promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, productive employment, and decent work for all, and Goal 13: Taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
"We will continue to innovate and collaborate to drive meaningful change. This achievement is not just a milestone for our company but solid proof that sustainability and social responsibility are integral parts of our business," Frans concluded.
