Balikpapan – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) succeeded in increasing the Company's oil and gas production by increasing oil production by 1,000 bopd (barrel oil per day – barrels per day) through the opening of the TN-N62 well in the Tunu Field, Mahakam Working Area (WK) in October 2022.
With this additional oil production, PHM's production level, which was previously around 27,000 bopd, increased to 28,000 bopd after the TN-N62 well project became operational.
Zone 8 General Manager Raam Krisna explained that this success was supported by applying a chemical injection strategy in the form of a demulsifier to overcome the emulsion content in oil.
"Until the end of October 2022, the level of PHM oil production reached around 28,000 bopd or 107% above the RKAP target of 23,649 bopd, and for the realization of gas production. It reached 560 MMSCFD (Million Standard Cubic Feet Per Day or million cubic feet of gas per day), equivalent to 110% above the RKAP target of 488 MMSCFD," said Krisna.
Furthermore, Krisna added that Demulsifier is used to overcome problems caused by the emulsion content in oil. In addition to affecting the quality of the oil produced, the emulsion content can interfere with the performance of the gas-condensate production equipment at the North Processing Unit (NPU). Therefore, according to Krisna, these chemicals increase production processing effectiveness, including perfectly separating oil and water.
Meanwhile, President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) Chalid Said Salim said that this achievement was the fruit of cross-functional. Collaboration from the NPU Production Operations team, Production Operations (Well Performance & Production Assurance), Operation Surface Facilities team, Well Intervention team, and the Reservoir team. As well as partners, prioritizing HSSE and setting AKHLAK values as core values when working.
"We always apply a strategic approach in selecting oil and gas projects that can provide the best return on investment following mature field conditions so that the sustainability of oil and gas operations to meet national energy needs can be maintained," said Chalid.
