PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Successfully Holds Third Phase Sail Away of SNB AOI Project and Inaugurates First Cut of Steel of Manpatu Project

Tanjung Pinang – In line with the development of the Sisi Nubi AOI Project as one of the strategic oil and gas projects, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), once again held the third stage sail away ceremony for the topside platform WPN5 and WPN6 of the Sisi Nubi Field in the Mahakam Working Area of East Kalimantan. The ceremony was held at the field owned by PT Meindo Elang Indah in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands, on May 16, 2025.

At this moment, the sailaway ceremony was also combined with the first cut of steel ceremony, marking the start of the fabrication phase of the Manpatu Project, another project being carried out by PHM. The series of ceremonies were attended by the Coordinator of Upstream Oil and Gas Safety of the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Bambang Eka Satria, Head of the SKK Migas Project Management Department Kosario M. Kautsar, President Director of PHI Sunaryanto, and General Manager of PHM Setyo Sapto Edi.

The third sail-away ceremony is a continuation of the two previous sail-aways, namely for the WPS4 and WPS5 topside platforms on April 28, 2025, and the WPN7 and WPN8 topside platforms on May 6, 2025. The success of the third stage of the sail-away operation is a significant step in accelerating the development of oil and gas fields in the Mahakam Working Area (WK), which will make a significant contribution to achieving national production targets.

In his remarks, Bambang Eka Satria expressed his high appreciation for the achievement of zero accidents to PHM and PT Meindo Elang Indah during the completion of the fabrication and commissioning stages of the SNB AOI Project. "This is a very proud achievement because all parties involved in this project were able to maintain and preserve zero accidents. I also hope that in the next project, safety work will always be prioritized by remaining enthusiastic in supporting the national production target," Bambang hoped.

Head of the Project Management Department of the SKK Migas Project Management Division Kosario M. Kautsar also expressed his appreciation for PHM's achievements. According to him, the success of the sail away and the inauguration of the first cut of steel of the Manpatu Project reflects the strength of collaboration and integrity in the implementation of upstream oil and gas projects. "We hope that all parties can continue to maintain this positive momentum in order to meet the national energy needs target," he said.

Meanwhile, PHI President Director Sunaryanto said that the success of these two projects is the result of an integrated oil and gas resource management strategy. According to him, the acceleration of strategic projects such as SNB AOI and Manpatu will have a positive impact on increasing national oil and gas reserves and production. "These two projects are a real form of the Company's commitment to continue investing and responding to future energy challenges by prioritizing aspects of sustainability, technology, and synergy between business lines," he said.

The SNB AOI project is an offshore field development project in Sisi Nubi, 25 km offshore from the Mahakam Delta in East Kalimantan, with a water depth of 60-80 meters. This project aims to increase gas and oil (condensate) production, with an average design capacity of 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) per platform. The drilling phase is planned to be carried out in the second semester of 2025, with an onstream target in the fourth quarter of the same year.

PHM General Manager Setyo Sapto Edi stated that PHM is committed to consistently carrying out safe, effective, superior, and environmentally friendly oil and gas operations, thereby significantly and sustainably contributing to the achievement of national production targets. He added that PHM continues to invest in exploration drilling activities and the development of oil and gas fields to find new resources and maintain production levels.

This strategy also supports the Indonesian Government's Asta Cita mandate to achieve energy self-sufficiency. "We implement best practices to maintain production levels and hold back the rate of natural production decline to support the achievement of Indonesia's energy security," said Setyo.

The inauguration of the first cut of steel for the Manpatu Project marks the start of the structural fabrication phase of the project, which will also support the sustainability of Mahakam WK production. This also demonstrates the success of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding in maintaining the continuity of strategic oil and gas projects amid existing industry challenges while prioritizing safety and work quality aspects.

The Manpatu project is a further development of the Manpatu exploration well discovery in the South Mahakam Field, approximately 35 km southeast of Balikpapan City or 60 km south of the Senipah Terminal. The South Mahakam cluster comprises four gas fields that are already producing, namely the Stupa, Mandu, Jempang-Metulang, and Jumelai fields, with water depths ranging from 45 to 60 meters. The Manpatu platform will be built at the location of the MPT-1X well, with a distribution pipe of approximately 3 km connected to the existing platform, namely MD-1, and a production target of 80 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). The two projects are part of PHM's efforts to maintain and increase national gas production.

PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) is a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) located in Zona 8, which manages upstream oil and gas operations and businesses by the principles of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in the Mahakam Working Area, East Kalimantan.
