Balikpapan (27/6/2023) – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) has successfully drilled the Bekapai Project Phase 3, namely wells BH-05 and well BH-06 with gas production of 4 million cubic feet per day (MMscfd) and oil 1000 barrels per day (BOPD). This result is equivalent to 9.1 MMBOE (million barrels of oil equivalent), which far exceeds the drilling target of 6.5 MMBOE.
Acting PHM General Manager Ferico Afrinas explained that this drilling achievement was obtained from drilling 5 wells, which began in February 2023 after modifying two existing platforms, namely the BE Well and BH Well, from April 2022 to February 2023.
Furthermore, Ferico added that the Bekapai Phase 3 Project allows drilling 3 new wells, which will be carried out on the same platform within the scope of the Bekapai Phase 5 and Bekapai Phase 6 Projects.
The success of the drilling that PHM achieved, according to Ferico, resulted from the hard work of all PHM Officers and excellence in project safety performance. "We achieved the milestone of 1.34 million working hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI) and work accidents during 11 months of offshore activities," said Federico.
Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), John Anis, stated the Company's commitment to continue to invest in drilling new wells as a strategic step in curbing the rate of natural production decline and maintaining oil and gas production levels from mature fields.
"The continued development of the Bekapai Field is expected to support the Company's steps to maintain oil and gas production, especially from the Bekapai Field, and to maintain the continuity of Mahakam WK oil and gas production," added John.
According to John, apart from projects that are currently in the execution stage, several projects that are in the process of being proposed include Bekapai OPL 3A, Bekapai Artificial Lift phase 2, and Bekapai MF 8.5". "All of these oil and gas projects play an important role in maintaining PHM production to support meeting national energy needs and state revenue," concluded John.
