PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Holds Sustainability Forum for Guru Penggerak (Teacher Leaders) in Coastal Areas

Samarinda – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) held the Guru Penggerak (Teacher Leaders) Sustainability Forum in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, on 13–15 November 2025. The forum is part of PHM’s flagship CSR program, the Sekolah Negeri Terapung (Floating Public School) initiative, which is implemented in two coastal villages, Tani Baru and Sepatin in Anggana District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency.

During the forum, the company presented the achievements of the Guru Penggerak mentoring program, which has been running for five years since 2021 through a partnership with the non-profit organization Indonesia Mengajar (IM). The event was attended by Anggana District Head Rendra Abadi, coastal-area scholars, Guru Penggerak, representatives from UPT LK Anggana, representatives of coastal village governments Tani Baru, Muara Pantuan, Sepatin, and Tanjung Berukang (preparatory village), as well as junior and senior high school teachers.

PHM’s Head of Communication Relations & CID, Achmad Krisna Hadiyanto, explained that the Guru Penggerak program has delivered a significant impact. This includes mentoring for 165 coastal scholars, 17 training sessions for 39 junior and senior high school teachers, provincial-level Adiwiyata awards for SMPN 4 and SMPN 6 Anggana, and the designation of SMPN 6 Anggana as a Google Reference School. The program has also supported hundreds of student and teacher achievements at local to international levels over the past two years.

He noted that the forum aims to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders to improve education quality in coastal areas, especially in Anggana District, which lies near PHM’s operational area. “This forum provides space for shared reflection, identifying needs, developing work plans, consolidating stakeholder roles, and reinforcing long-term commitments in education development,” he said.

Achmad added that the company also supports teacher capacity-building through Komunitas Kukar Pintar Idaman (KBKPI). Through this community, Guru Penggerak members mentor 11 schools in Anggana District to foster a positive and sustainable learning ecosystem. “This aligns with the Indonesian government’s priority to expand development in underserved, frontier, and outermost regions,” he added.

Anggana District Head Rendra Abadi expressed appreciation for PHM’s initiatives. PHM’s support for education has had a wide, very positive impact. This is evident from the many achievements of both schools and students in provincial and international competitions,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Manager of Communication Relations & CID at PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ensuring that the upstream oil and gas operations of PHI and its subsidiaries, including PHM, drive economic growth, community self-reliance, and environmental preservation in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “We run CID programs in education to support the government’s efforts to improve school infrastructure, strengthen local institutions, and develop human resources around our operational areas in Kalimantan,” he said.

He added that the company’s education-focused CSR programs have helped enhance educational facilities, raise community awareness of the importance of schooling, improve learning materials, provide vocational training for out-of-school youth, offer scholarships, and expand access to higher education. “This includes the progress shown by the Sekolah Negeri Terapung program and the work of the Guru Penggerak,” he concluded.
