Samboja – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) provided infrastructure assistance in the form of ten bathroom units for female students at Pondok Pesantren Al-Arsyadi in Handil Baru Village, Samboja District, Kutai Kartanegara. This initiative was part of PHM’s CSR program, which supports community development and self-sufficiency in the company’s operational areas, particularly in health and education.
The handover ceremony, held on Thursday (October 2, 2025), was attended by the Head of Handil Baru Village, Ery Winarto; the Chairperson of the Handil Baru Community Empowerment Institution (LPM), Yamani; and the Head of Pondok Pesantren Al-Arsyadi, KH. Saifuddin Marzuki and representatives of PHM management.
Superintendent Maintenance SPS PHM, Sulistiyanto, emphasized the company’s commitment to maintaining harmonious relationships with the surrounding community and the environment. “Support programs such as this assistance to the Islamic boarding school are a reflection of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). We believe that the sustainability of upstream oil and gas operations in East Kalimantan, an important region for national energy security, depends on strong support and good relations between the company and its stakeholders, including the education sector,” he said.
KH. Saifuddin Marzuki, Head of Pondok Pesantren Al-Arsyadi, expressed his appreciation for the assistance, noting that the 10 new bathroom units provided by PHM were highly beneficial and offered a practical solution to improve students' comfort and hygiene. “Alhamdulillah, we are very grateful for PHM’s concern and support. Previously, our more than 200 female students had to share only two bathrooms, which often caused difficulties,” he said.
The assistance also received positive responses from local government officials. The Head of Handil Baru Village, Ery Winarto, expressed his gratitude to the company for its various community empowerment programs, including this one. “The government and the community will continue to support PHM’s operations because the success of oil and gas production has a direct positive impact on regional income,” he said.
Meanwhile, Manager of Communication Relations & CID at PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), Dony Indrawan, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to implementing impactful and innovative CSR programs. “PHI and its subsidiaries, such as PHM, are committed to carrying Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) through Community Involvement and Development (CID) programs that foster community development, self-sufficiency, and environmental preservation,” he explained.
Dony added that the company ensures its CID programs address beneficiaries' current and future needs. “We apply an approach that ensures each CID program is relevant and provides sustainable solutions to community issues, as seen in this initiative with the Islamic boarding school,” he said.
Through this Community Involvement and Development (CID) program, the company hopes that the new facilities will improve comfort, support students’ learning activities, and enhance education quality and community well-being in its operational areas. “Adequate and comfortable facilities are expected to improve the learning environment and support a better future for the next generation as we move toward Indonesia Emas 2045,” Dony concluded.
