PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Completes Installation of 1,000-Ton Manpatu Offshore Platform Jacket and Topside.

Balikpapan – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) has achieved another important milestone in the Manpatu Oil and Gas Field Development Project. On May 27, 2026, PHM successfully completed the installation of the jacket and topside of the Manpatu Offshore Platform. The Manpatu Project is a development of an exploration well discovery located in the South Mahakam offshore area, approximately 35 kilometers off the coast of Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.

The completion of the platform installation marks the continuation of a series of project milestones that have been carried out since April 2026. The project began with the Jacket Sail Away on April 8, 2026, followed by the load-out and sail away of the topside from PT Meindo Elang Indah’s fabrication yard in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands, on April 17, 2026, and the final Topside Sail Away on April 30, 2026.

One of the most critical stages of the project was the heavy lifting activity involving the installation of the approximately 1,000-ton topside onto the jacket structure with high precision offshore. The entire operation was successfully executed as planned through strong collaboration among the PHM project team, contractors, and business partners, with support from relevant stakeholders.

PHM General Manager, Setyo Sapto Edi, stated that the Manpatu Oil and Gas Field Development Project reflects the Company's commitment to continuously investing in exploration and exploitation activities to sustain oil and gas production, which plays an important role in supporting Indonesia’s energy availability and resilience. “At PHM, we invest in exploration activities to discover new resources, increase reserves, and maintain the sustainability of oil and natural gas production from the Kalimantan region for decades to come,” he said.

According to Setyo, the project received full support from PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), the parent company, and the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas). “The successful installation of the Manpatu Offshore Platform jacket and topside is the result of the hard work, synergy, and commitment of all stakeholders in executing the project safely, reliably, and in accordance with the targeted schedule. This achievement represents an important step in maintaining operational sustainability and supporting increased national oil and gas production,” Edi explained.

Throughout the project, the Company implemented strict supervision, structured risk management, and a disciplined safety culture across all stages of the work, enabling the project to be completed with strong HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) performance. “Safety remained our top priority throughout the execution of the project,” he added.

The Manpatu Offshore Platform is designed to support production and field development activities within the Mahakam Working Area. Once operational, the project is expected to increase gas production by up to 80 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), representing approximately 20 percent of Mahakam’s total production in 2027.

PHM will proceed with the next project phases, including riser and subsea spool installation, hook-up activities, and commissioning, to ensure the platform is ready for optimal operation in the first quarter of 2027. The successful completion of this project further reinforces PHM’s strategic role in supporting national oil and gas production targets and contributing to sustainable energy resilience for Indonesia.
