PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam Achieves The Fastest Well Drilling Record

Jakarta - PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) succeeded in drilling the NB-404 well at the Nubi Side Field (17/06/22) as the fastest drilling carried out by the Company. Drilling on a hole size (section) of 12.25", became the drilling with the fastest interval in the history of offshore Mahakam which reached a depth of 1,434 meters within 24 hours.

PHM's General Manager, Krisna, said that PHM continues to encourage the emergence of innovations and technological applications that can improve the safety, reliability, and excellence of the Company's oil and gas operations.

"We are implementing drilling practices that are more effective, efficient, and fast in finding new oil and gas resources from exploration and development (exploitation) activities. This is in line with our commitment to continue to invest and carry out drilling activities for new wells as a strategic step in containing natural declining rate and maintaining oil and gas production levels to support the achievement of the national oil and gas production target by 2030," explained Krisna.

Drilling, which is planned since May 2022, is carried out with Rotary Steerable System (RSS) technology supported by the Rop Maxi Drill optimization program, with an on-bottom drilling rate of 104.97 meters/hour and an average drilling rate of 57.48 meters/hour. RSS is a drilling technology used in directional drilling operations. In its operation, this RSS usually replaces the use of conventional directional drilling tools such as Mud Motor. RSS has the advantage of improving Drilling Efficiency, Reducing the Risk of Drilling, and reducing Drilling Costs during drilling operations. Rop Maxi Drill is one of PHM's campaigns to increase the Rate of Penetration (ROP) in drilling operations. This is supported by a good analysis of the selection of tools and technology that will be used in drilling activities later. This drilling is estimated to save the well cost by 228,597 USD and the acceleration of the flow of the well to be produced.

PHM's Senior Manager of Drilling & Well Intervention, Muhammad Sobirin said that this achievement adds to the Company's good record in improving the performance of superior oil and gas operations without work accidents. According to Sobirin, the performance of the Hakuryu-14 team that runs this drilling can be a new reference for the Company's drilling performance in the future.
