Jakarta - PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) won two awards at the 2023 Media Relations Award. The Media Relations Award is the first event held by the Press Workers' Union (SPS) to coincide with its 77th anniversary. PHI won two awards, namely in the Media Special Program category through the PHI Iga Baso activity and the Press Gathering through Sailing the Ocean for Indonesia.
With the theme "Media Industry Transformation to Rise Together" this series of events was held on August 9-11 in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Bali. The highlight of the anniversary night was held at the Governor's Residence in Bali, Denpasar, with four prestigious awards crowned in the media sector, namely the Media Brand Award, Media Relations Award, as well as the Most Popular Corporation and Leader in Mainstream Media (11/08/2023).
The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster opened the peak of the 77th anniversary of SPS and expressed his support for the progress of the Indonesian press. “The press is a community partner. Communicating with the press is a basic need for various parties, including the government," he said.
SPS Chairman as well as Main Commissioner for Thoughts of the People, Januar P. Ruswita called on all parties to save the Indonesian press industry so that the press can still play its role as a filter in the midst of the rampant fake news that floods the public. "Many press companies have degraded themselves through their journalistic products by changing their works to suit the tastes of platform algorithms," he said.
Senior Manager Relations of Pertamina Hulu Indonesia, Farah Dewi, expressed her appreciation for the Media Relations Award initiated by SPS. "This event is a barometer of the Company's performance in managing relations with the media," said Dewi.
President Director of PHI, John Anis conveyed the Company's commitment to transparency of public information, particularly through the mass media. "PHI conveys various information about the company's operations, business, and TJSL/CSR activities through the company's products and communication channels and the mass media," he said.
The Media Relations Award consists of four categories: Media Special Program, Press Gathering, Press Conference, and Press Release. PHI managed to get a Silver award in the Media Special Program category through the PHI-style Oil and Gas Discussion Program (Baso Iga PHI) and a Bronze award in the Press Gathering program category through the Sailing the Seas for Indonesia program.
Baso Iga PHI is a media engagement program initiated during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the midst of social restrictions during a pandemic, the Pertamina group underwent a significant organizational transformation and the Company needed to convey this information and updates to the public. Communication, as well as information about the Company's transformation can be conveyed properly through online activities with local media in the Kalimantan region in 2021.
The following year, the second and third online Baso Iga PHI activities were again held to strengthen the interaction between the Company and the media. In its third year, Baso Iga PHI has transformed to involve the national media and is held offline. Baso Iga PHI has proven that companies can carry out media engagement activities effectively across the pandemic and post-pandemic eras.
Sailing the Seas for Indonesia is a Press Gathering program held for the first time by PHI in the Zone 10 work area. Through this activity, the Company invites local media in the East Kalimantan region, to increase understanding of the Company's operational activities. Participants take a tour of offshore drilling rigs, facilities for processing and shipping crude oil and gas in the Pertamina Hulu area, East Kalimantan.
PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) is part of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding which manages upstream oil and gas operations and business according to ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) principles in Regional 3 Kalimantan.
