Tarakan – PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) received a Specific Working Visit/Kunjungan Kerja Spesifik (Kunspek) from Commission XII of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) during a working meeting held in Tarakan City, North Kalimantan (Kaltara), on Friday (January 23, 2026). The visit formed part of the oversight function of Commission XII DPR RI, which oversees the energy, mineral resources, environment, and investment sectors, and aimed to obtain first-hand insights from the field regarding the performance of the upstream oil and gas sector.
The working visit was attended by the President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia, the General Manager of Zona 10, along with members of the Company's management. On this occasion, the Head of the Kunspek Team, Dony M. Oekon, expressed appreciation for PHI's performance, which exceeded its 2025 targets and contributed significantly to achieving the national oil and gas lifting targets. "I appreciate PHI's achievements in exceeding its 2025 targets, as well as achieving zero fatalities. These achievements contribute to national targets. Hopefully, PHI can serve as an inspiration for other regions to increase production, so that by 2030, production can rise again and meet the targets. God willing, this can be achieved," said Dony.
This working visit is also expected to strengthen support from all stakeholders, including local communities, regional governments, and strategic partners of the DPR RI, for the smooth operation of PHI, including at Tarakan Field. The outcomes of this working visit will serve as important input for Commission XII in policy formulation and discussions at upcoming working meetings.
During the meeting, PHI President Director Sunaryanto presented the latest information regarding the Company, covering upstream oil and gas operations of PHI and its affiliates in the North Kalimantan region, namely PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Tarakan Field, operational performance, challenges in managing mature oil and gas fields, as well as requests for support to maintain the sustainability of national oil and gas production.
Sunaryanto explained that oil and gas fields in North Kalimantan, including the PEP Tarakan Field, are mature fields that have been operating for a long time, have passed their peak production phase, and naturally experience declining production. "To address these challenges, the Company consistently carries out operational optimization, improves cost efficiency, applies appropriate technology, and strengthens operational governance with a focus on safety and asset reliability," said Anto, the familiar nickname of Sunaryanto.
According to him, these measures are undertaken by PHI to support the national production targets of 1 million barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 12 thousand MMSCFD of natural gas by 2029–2030, as well as national energy security. "At PHI, we are committed to maintaining the sustainability of oil and gas production through prudent management of mature fields, the application of safety principles, and environmental protection, while ensuring project economics remain viable to safeguard the sustainability of upstream oil and gas investment," Anto added.
In addition to production aspects, PHI and PEP Tarakan Field also reaffirmed their strong commitment to the implementation of Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental Protection/Keselamatan, Kesehatan Kerja, dan Lindungan Lingkungan (K3LL), including the management of operational waste, emission control, and environmental risk mitigation at every stage of upstream oil and gas activities. All operational activities are carried out in line with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
During the working meeting, Commission XII of the DPR RI emphasized the importance of balancing national energy security, environmental protection, and economic benefits for the regions. The inputs and discussions that took place constitute an important part of joint efforts to encourage policies that support a favorable upstream oil and gas investment climate.
This working visit is expected to further strengthen synergy between the DPR RI, the government, and PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia in supporting the achievement of national oil and gas production targets through safe, efficient, and sustainable operations, while delivering significant benefits to communities in the Company's areas of operation.
