Jakarta – To support the acceleration of employee competence development within the Company, PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) held the MAST3R Program, short for Mentoring and Area Skill Transfer for Effective Acceleration. The MAST3R Program covered both technical aspects and soft skills through direct involvement in strategic projects, mentoring from senior professionals, and opportunities to build cross-functional networks.
The program, with the theme “Fostering Talents, Building the Future”, had run since June 2024 and officially concluded on August 15, 2025. Since its inception, the program has facilitated nine strategic projects, selectively chosen by the President Director, with three main themes as the focus of development: cost efficiency, innovation, and digitalization. Each project group had conducted three presentations in English, completed in March 2025. The three best groups received the opportunity to present directly to the President Director in June 2025.
Vice President of Business Support at PHI, Farah Dewi, explained that Human Resources (HR), specifically the Company’s employees, are the most important assets in achieving business goals and the aspiration to become a world-class oil and gas company that contributes to Indonesia’s growth and prosperity. “We were committed to continuously investing in the development of competent and globally-minded HR to support the Company’s operational and business needs now and the future,” she said.
According to her, the MAST3R Program was a form of the Company’s investment in developing competent and future-ready HR through coaching, mentoring, training, and on-the-job activities, in line with the Company’s operational and business needs. “Based on the feedback received, the implementation of the MAST3R Program has received very positive responses from all parties. The mentees, as the program participants, stated that there were improvements in their understanding of technical fields, including Pipeline and Process Engineering, Reservoir Characteristics, Geological Concepting, Economic Analysis, Borderless Concept, Psychological Aspects in Safety, and Understanding of Surface Facilities,” she added.
Not only that, the results of this program also showed improvement in non-technical aspects, such as public speaking in English, presentation and communication skills, collaboration and cross-functional teamwork, critical thinking, and skills in preparing Work Reports.
The three best groups were as follows:
1. Subsurface Development & Planning Function – Zona 9: Alvine Winardi Tammala and Chandra Fadhillah Amiin with the topic ‘Borderless Development Drilling PEP – PHSS Area’.
2. Development & Drilling Function – Regional 3: Bayu Januar Mustaqim and Muhammad Rahmanaji Soeparmono with the topic ‘Borderless Project Study to Develop Area of Interest 1 – Mutiara East (PHSS), Handil South (PHM), and Sapi (PHKT)’.
3. Exploration Function – Regional 3: Aris Tristianto Wibowo and Surahman Meidy Christian with the topic ‘The Implementation of Unconventional Hydrocarbon Business Model by Applying Fracturing Method in Tight Reservoir’.
At the closing event of the MAST3R Program, PHI President Director Sunaryanto expressed his belief that the experiences and learnings from the MAST3R Program would become an important foundation to support career development and sustainable contributions to the organization. “To all mentees, keep growing and be agents of change who bring positive impact. Moreover, to the mentors and Champions, thank you for being an important part of this process and for showing exemplary leadership in shaping the Company’s future talents,” he said.
The MAST3R Program reaffirmed PHI’s commitment to preparing competent, adaptable talents who are ready to face the challenges of the oil and gas industry, both now and in the future. “We believe that investment in employee development, as implemented through the MAST3R Program, will ensure the availability of competent and excellent HR needed to meet the Company’s upstream oil and gas operational and business needs at present and in the future,” Sunaryanto concluded.
