PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia Presents ESG Performance and Technology Innovation at IPA Convex 2023

Jakarta– As part of Pertamina Upstream Subholding, which is helmed by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) presented the performance of environmental management and technological innovation at The 47th IPA Convention and Exhibition 2023 at the ICE BSD Convention Center (23 - 25 July 2023) which carries the theme Enabling Oil & Gas Investment and Energy Transition for Energy Security.

At the opening ceremony of IPA Convex 2023, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif explained that there are several ways to ensure that the upstream oil and gas industry continues to grow to meet demand while at the same time playing a role in efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Efficient energy use to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in operational activities is the easiest way business actors can take.

President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia John Anis explained that by the Company's vision to become a world-class oil and gas company, the Company always encourages the emergence of innovations and technological applications that can improve the safety, reliability and excellence of the Company's oil and gas operations.

"PHI applies integrated ESG principles by prioritizing aspects related to environmental responsibility, where in 2022 a number of achievements were recorded in the environmental sector, including water conservation of 699,330.8 m³; reducing greenhouse emissions through the Point Of Sales (POS) program of 71,430.64 tons CO2e; flora and fauna conservation covering an area of 12,197.65 Ha; reducing B3 waste by 41,227.18 tons and planting 1,628,282 trees," he said.

John Anis added that technological innovations and applications that have been developed through PHI's subsidiaries include Green Environmental oil Pump Installation (GEMPI) from Pertamina EP (PEP) Tarakan Field and Multi Attributes Machine Analysis (MAMA) from PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM).

"GEMPI's innovation is low-power pump technology to produce oil wells and photovoltaic technology that utilizes solar cell panels as a source of electricity to drive low-power pumps," explained John Anis.

Several awards have also been won by GEMPI, including the Platinum Award and a nomination for Best Innovation at CIP UIIA 2022, The Most Creative Program category at the 2023 Decarbonization Competition, Indonesia Green Award for Technology Engineering Category in Saving Energy Using EBT; as well as the Platinum Award at the 2023 Annual Pertamina Quality Forum (APQA).

Meanwhile, MAMA is a revolutionary data-based analytic program that allows the Company to find development potential outside the current development parameter area while providing a higher probability of success and better predictability. This award was also awarded the Gold Award in Upstream Improvement & Innovation Award (UIIA) in 2022.
