PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore Bunyu Conducts The First 3D Marine Seismic Survey in North Kalimantan Waters

North Kalimantan- PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore Bunyu (PHELPB) conducted a 3D sea seismic survey which is part of the upstream oil and gas exploration activities in the Bunyu Offshore Work Area (WK) in Bulungan District, North Kalimantan Province. PHELPB is a subsidiary of Pertamina, sub-holding upstream under Zone 10 Regional 3 Kalimantan.

The General Manager of Zone 10, Djudjuwanto, explained that this seismic survey activity was the first time conducted at the Bunyu Offshore WK as a form of the company's commitment to supporting the government's program to accelerate the increase in national oil and gas production.

"The PHELPB 3D marine seismic survey will be carried out until May 2023 and consists of 2 work areas, each adjacent to Bunyu Island. Through this survey, the company can improve understanding of the geological conditions below the surface and obtain new seismic data that will be used in the planning and development of this CA," said Djujuwanto.

According to Djujuwanto, this seismic activity is carried out to maintain the economy and productivity of oil and gas fields. Because if this survey is successful, it will be able to support energy needs in North Kalimantan and help maintain the economy of other oil and gas blocks around the area.

"The company is socializing the implementation of the 3D sea seismic survey to stakeholders around the PHELPB work area, which is in the border area with Malaysia," explained Djudjuwanto.

Djujuwanto added that the company is collaborating with the KRI Mambirdan, Indonesian Navy personnel, and the Nordic Bahari Survey Vessel. "The involvement of the Indonesian Navy emphasizes the importance of security in guarding the upstream oil and gas project as a vital national object," said Djudjuwanto.

PHI Vice President Exploration Sri Hartanto conveyed the importance of the Bunyu Offshore 3D seismic survey in supporting efforts to increase Indonesia's oil and gas production.

"Hopefully, this seismic survey can be used shortly to verify and search for reserves of new oil and gas resources so that they can contribute to achieving the oil production target of 1 million barrels in 2030," added Sri.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of North Kalimantan Province, Dr. H. Suriansyah, MAP, revealed that this seismic survey was a historic moment in North Kalimantan.

"Hopefully, this activity will have a long-term impact on economic growth in North Kalimantan," concluded Suriansyah.
