Sangatta – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangatta Field successfully held a 5K Fun Run themed “Menggerakkan Energi Kebaikan” (Moving the Energy of Kindness) at the Anggrek Hitam Patra Club (AHPC) area on September 13, 2025. The event brought together around 500 participants from various villages in South Sangatta District, East Kutai, East Kalimantan.
Cahyo Nugroho, the Field Manager of PEP Sangatta, explained that the 5K Fun Run aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle while strengthening relationships with stakeholders, particularly local communities and government representatives around the company’s operational area. “This Fun Run serves as a gathering event between Pertamina EP Sangatta Field and stakeholders, including sub-district officials, the military, police, village and urban administration, and residents from the surrounding areas,” said Cahyo.
The 5K Fun Run was part of the Road to PEP20 series to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of PT Pertamina EP (PEP). The community showed great enthusiasm for this first-ever event, with participants coming from Sangatta Selatan Village, Sangkima Village, Teluk Singkama Village, Pinang Raya Preparatory Village, and Singa Geweh Sub-district. The presence of South Sangatta District officials, along with village heads and local leaders, further enlivened the event.
Excitement filled the air early in the morning as hundreds of runners gathered at the Anggrek Hitam Patra Club (AHPC) area for a warm-up session led by BKO Chairman of PEP Sangatta Field, Captain Ketut P. Martejati.
At exactly 06:30 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA), Field Manager Cahyo Nugroho officially flagged off the race amid a burst of colorful confetti, marking the start of the event. The five-kilometer route took participants through the company’s residential area, local neighborhoods, and the PEP Sangatta office complex. More than just a sports activity, the event served as a platform to strengthen connections between the company, local government, and the surrounding community.
Out of the 500 participants aged between 12 and 55, Ahmar emerged as the fastest runner in the men’s category, finishing in 24:00 minutes. In the women’s category, Karmila claimed the top spot with a finishing time of 39:46 minutes. Medals were awarded by PEP Sangatta management representatives and members of the Pertamina Women’s Association (PWP). The event also featured 300 door prizes, a Best Costume award, and a Most Liked Instagram Reels challenge, adding to the fun and sense of togetherness.
Appreciation came from Acting Subdistrict Head of South Sangatta, Rusmiati, who expressed pride and enthusiasm for the event. “I highly appreciate the organizers’ effort in hosting such a positive activity that benefits not only internal participants but also the local community. I hope this can become an annual tradition. Thank you to PEP Sangatta for holding such a lively, healthy, and meaningful event,” said Rusmiati.
Meanwhile, Manager of Communication Relations & CID at PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), Dony Indrawan, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders around its operational areas. “We believe that harmonious relations with the community and environment surrounding our operations will support the sustainability of oil and gas production from Kalimantan, which plays an important role in national energy security,” he said.
According to Dony, the 5K Fun Run also aimed to promote a culture of healthy living through regular sports activities. “We continue to ensure that the company’s presence contributes to community development and self-reliance, including improving public health, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he added.
The successful organization of this event reflects a spirit of collaboration and shared commitment toward embracing a healthy lifestyle across both the company and local communities.
