PT Pertamina EP Sangasanga Field Promotes Students English Literacy Through Free Class Program

Kutai Kartanegara – PT Pertamina EP Sangasanga Field held the Graduation Day for the Sangasanga District English Class Batch 1 at Wisma Ria Building, within the PEP Sangasanga Field complex in Kutai Kartanegara, on March 6, 2026. The English Class is part of PEP Sangasanga Field’s Community Involvement & Development (CID) program, providing free English lessons for students in Sangasanga District.

A total of 40 elementary school students and 40 junior high school students took part in the Graduation Day event. The participants attended together with their parents or guardians, and the event was witnessed by PEP Sangasanga Field management, the Sangasanga District administration, Komite Nasional Pemuda Indonesia (KNPI) Sangasanga District, as well as representatives from the local military and police.

Senior Manager of PEP Sangasanga Field, Sigid Setiawan, stated that the English Class program reflects the company’s commitment to improving educational quality for the young generation living in its operational area. “This program is expected to contribute to improving the quality of education for the younger generation around our operational area in support of a better future,” Sigid explained.

According to him, the participants’ enthusiasm throughout the program shows the strong community demand for additional educational initiatives like this. “Therefore, PEP Sangasanga Field is committed to continuing the program by organizing the next batch so that more students can benefit,” he added.

The English Class was held twice a week for two months, starting in January. The program was supported by professional instructors, namely Yusril Dwi Randa Putra, a graduate of Rostov State Transport University, and Rachma Thalia, a graduate of Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta, who guided the participants throughout the learning process.

Participants were divided into two educational categories. For elementary school students, lessons focused on basic English introduction and vocabulary enrichment. Meanwhile, for junior high school students, the curriculum aimed to improve basic English communication skills so students could become more confident in English interaction. Graduation Day marked the conclusion of the program and served as a way to appreciate the participants’ dedication and enthusiasm for learning.

This English Class program is part of PEP Sangasanga Field’s Community Development and Engagement/Pelibatan dan Pengembangan Masyarakat (PPM) program in education, implemented in collaboration with KNPI Sangasanga District. The initiative also aims to strengthen synergy between the company, youth organizations, and the community in supporting local human resource development.

Chairman of KNPI Sangasanga District, Yudha Heru Lesmana, expressed appreciation and gratitude to PEP Sangasanga Field for the collaboration in organizing the English Class. He said the program has provided tangible benefits for improving the capacity of the younger generation in the area. “Community enthusiasm is very high, and requests for the next batch have already emerged. This shows that the program is highly needed. We hope this activity can continue so that more children in Sangasanga have the opportunity to learn English,” he said.

Meanwhile, Manager of Communication Relations and CID Dony Indrawan reaffirmed the company’s commitment to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs to support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to him, the company runs education-focused CID programs aimed at supporting government efforts to improve educational infrastructure and facilities, strengthen local institutions, and develop human resource capacity around the company’s operational areas in Kalimantan.

Dony added that the company’s education-related CID programs have contributed to improving educational facilities and infrastructure, raising public awareness of the importance of education and student motivation, enriching learning materials, providing vocational training for out-of-school youth, offering scholarships, and opening access to higher education. “Alhamdulillah, the free English program organized by PEP Sangasanga has delivered benefits to students living around the company’s operational area,” he concluded.
