Promoting the Role of the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry, PT Pertamina EP Bunyu Field Welcomes a Visit from SMKN 1 Bunyu Teachers and Students

Bunyu Island, North Kalimantan – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Bunyu welcomed a field visit from students of the Petroleum Engineering Program at SMKN 1 Bunyu, Bulungan, North Kalimantan, on February 19-20, 2025. This activity enriches students' academic experience and provides practical insights into the upstream oil and gas industry, including the actual dynamics of the working world.

The visit involved 31 students, 15 from the 11th-grade Oil and Gas Drilling Program and 16 from the 10th-grade Petroleum Engineering Program, accompanied by three supervising teachers. This initiative bridges the gap between the theoretical knowledge gained at school and practical applications in the field.

As a key entity in the national energy sector, PEP Bunyu Field welcomed this visit as part of its commitment to supporting human resource development and fostering positive synergy between industry and education. In his speech, Pjs. Senior Manager of Bunyu Field, Brando Sitinjak, thanked the school for organizing the visit. "Stay curious, ask questions, seek as much knowledge as possible, and do not fear trying new things. We hope this activity provides a deeper understanding for both students and teachers," he said.

The Curriculum Head of SMKN 1 Bunyu, Kristiani Nainggolan, expressed her deep gratitude for the opportunity given to the students to learn directly from professionals in the upstream oil and gas industry. Meanwhile, one of the supervising teachers, Novianti, emphasized the significant impact of the visit on the students academically and in preparing for future career challenges. "We appreciate PT Pertamina EP Bunyu Field for offering this extraordinary opportunity. The knowledge gained will serve as an essential foundation for students in their future educational and professional journeys," she remarked.

During the two-day visit, students gained valuable experience by exploring various work functions at PEP Bunyu Field. On the first day, they conducted direct observations at the Loading Terminal and the HSSE Fire Station, followed by visits to the PE laboratory and tool shop and collaborative activities with the WLI function on the second day. This opportunity allowed participants to engage directly with petroleum experts, enhancing their understanding of oil and gas operations and offering strategic insights into career prospects within the energy sector.

This initiative enriches students' learning experiences and strengthens the strategic collaboration between educational institutions and industry to develop a competent young generation prepared to compete in the oil and gas sector.
