Muara Badak – Coinciding with the commemoration of Mother’s Day 2025, PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) held a Health Seminar at the Community Hall of Badak Baru Village, Muara Badak District, East Kalimantan, on Monday, December 22, 2025. Carrying the theme “Health Investment: Healthy Mothers, Strong Families,” the activity aimed to increase awareness and strengthen women’s capacity in maintaining their own health and that of their families. The seminar was part of PHSS’s Community Involvement and Development (CID) program in the health sector.
More than 80 participants attended the event. They represented the Muara Badak District Government, the Persit Kartika Chandra Kirana Muara Badak Branch, District and Village PKK Mobilizing Teams, the Badak Baru Community Health Center team, as well as PHSS-assisted micro and small enterprises, including the Women Farmers and Coastal Fisherfolk Group Sejahtera, Amplang Saliki, and Livoo. The presence of these cross-stakeholder groups reflected strong collaboration in supporting the strategic role of women, particularly mothers, as the main pillars of family health.
Muara Badak Sub-district Head, Arpan, expressed his appreciation for PHSS’s initiative in commemorating Mother’s Day through a health-focused approach. He emphasized the importance of honoring mothers' roles within the family and encouraged participants to take advantage of the free health services as part of a long-term investment in health.
The activity began with free health screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and uric acid tests, as part of preventive and promotive health efforts. The event was then officially opened with remarks from PHSS Field Manager, Widhiarto Imam Subarkah, who emphasized that mothers’ health is a long-term investment for family resilience. “I strongly believe that mothers are the main pillars of the family. Based on my personal experience, when my wife is ill, her vital role at home cannot be replaced,” he said. Therefore, the health of mothers is crucial to family strength.
Through this seminar, PHSS hopes to strengthen mothers' roles as frontline guardians of family health while encouraging cross-sector synergy to build a healthy, resilient, and empowered Muara Badak community. The activity reflects PHSS’s tangible commitment to sustainably improving public health quality in its operational areas.
The health seminar featured dr. Tiara Cintya Destinahayun from the PHSS Clinic is the main speaker. In her presentation, dr. Tiara emphasized that mothers play a central role as guardians of family health, from managing dietary patterns and preventing illness to maintaining the mental health of family members. She explained several diseases most commonly found in the Badak Baru Community Health Center’s service area, including acute respiratory infections, diabetes, digestive disorders, and skin diseases affecting nearly 10 percent of residents, as well as hypertension affecting one in 12 residents.
Participants were also equipped with preventive measures that can be implemented within the family environment. The session continued with discussions on women’s health, including the importance of early detection of cervical cancer through IVA tests or Pap smears, HPV vaccination, and breast cancer detection through breast self-examination/Pemeriksaan Payudara Sendiri (SADARI).
Participants’ enthusiasm was evident during the active, interactive discussion session. Various questions were raised regarding skin health, metabolic disorders, and reproductive health. To further encourage participation, the organizing committee also held quizzes presented in an educational and entertaining format.
The activity also received appreciation from the Chairperson of the Muara Badak District PKK, Valeria Irene Enny Arpan, as well as other participants. Valeria stated that the seminar addressed mothers’ concerns about various health issues they face in daily life. Meanwhile, the Head of the Badak Baru Community Health Center, drg. Eka Rury assessed that the seminar greatly helped educate the community about the importance of Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (IVA) examinations. She also hoped that the scope of similar activities could be expanded to the neighborhood level and other community groups. Meanwhile, a representative of PHSS-assisted UMK, Siska from WTNPS, stated that the delivered material provided practical insights that could be directly applied to achieve healthy lifestyles within families.
