PHMs CSR Program Petani Maju 4.0 Successfully Regenerates Young Farmers

PHMs CSR Program Petani Maju 4.0 Successfully Regenerates Young Farmers

Kutai Kartanegara - PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) initiated the CSR Program “Petani Maju 4.0” in 2018 and has fostered two farmer groups who master farming skills with Permaculture techniques in Sanipah and Handil Baru Darat Villages, Samboja District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, which are located not far from the PHM Area of Bekapai Senipah Peciko Field (BSP).

The technique introduced in the Advanced Petani Maju 4.0 is the innovation of the Pertakultur Agricultural System, which integrates the agricultural system from upstream to downstream with the environmentally friendly Pertakultur system. This program has three uniqueness: the collaboration of young and old farmers and biotasuke decomposing innovations from organic waste.

There is also the integration of technology and agriculture in the form of drones for agricultural monitoring, forest and land fire mitigation, and the development of digital planting applications for product marketing.

The Advanced Farmer Program 4.0 manages organic waste and successfully produces innovative organic liquid fertilizer (PCO), Biotasuke, up to 500 liters per month. This PCO is also used for fertilization in the seeding process of rare plants in greenhouses in the BSP Field to support the Biodiversity program.

Frans Alexander A. Hukom, Head of Communication Relations & CID PHM Zone 8 Regional 3 Kalimantan Subholding Upstream Pertamina, revealed that this year the program's focus is on preparing independence as part of the exit strategy.

"It is hoped that in 2022, the Advanced Farmer Program 4.0 can become a reference and pilot area for environmentally friendly agrotourism in Kutai Kartanegara," he said.

Added by Frans, PHM targets youth groups for the implementation of this program because they are the ones who are expected to continue the culture of farming. Initially, youth who wanted to be involved in agricultural activities could be counted fingers. Still, now that the program is run, the number of young people who join continues to increase. Some are directly involved in agricultural and livestock activities, and some are active in product marketing.

The program's implementation has reduced the number of unemployed by empowering 33 farming youths and supporting environmental conservation through organic waste.

From environmental management, the program can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from plantation waste by 259.2 kg CH4 / year. Meanwhile, carbon reduction of biomass stocks reached 91.64 tons of CO2 / year, and irrigation cost savings of IDR 1.2 million per year.

Another technology introduced is the Digital Planting application, which is a means of online marketing and access to information on agricultural and livestock products.

Currently, these young people are the operators of the Tanam Digital application to attract buyers of agricultural products and processed agricultural products produced. Another peculiarity of the program, the Advanced Farmers 4.0 group introduced drones for green patrol activities.

"Now they can process data to monitor fertility and at the same time identify fire-prone lands," concluded Frans.
