PHM Improves Operational Reliability Through Planned Maintenance of Oil and Gas Facilities in Swamp Fields

Balikpapan - PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) will carry out Planned Maintenance Activities for oil and gas facilities in swamp areas to ensure reliable production facilities, as approved in the 2022 Work Plan & Budget (WP&B). Production facilities maintenance activities will be conducted in the following locations: North Processing Unit (NPU) Field on May 22, 2022, and the South Processing Unit (SPU), Central Processing Unit (CPU), and Sisi Nubi (SNB) Fields on May 28, 2022.

The purpose is to maintain the installations that covers activities such as rejuvenating production equipment (e.g., the piping system), testing the Emergency Shutdown System, intelligent pigging, and improving wastewater treatment equipment.

PHM General Manager, Krisna, explained that one of the strategies to reduce Loss of Production Opportunity (LPO) in the Sisi Nubi field is to roll out planned maintenance early to anticipate the acceleration of production of Jumelai Sisi Nubi (JSN)’s new wells planned to onstream in June 2022 – the SS-301 and SS-302 wells. “With this strategy, we can optimize LPO by 400 MMscf for gas and 630 barrels for oil,” said Krisna.

According to Krisna, the Planned Maintenance was thoroughly prepared with intense coordination with SKK Migas and PHI as the parent company. “This is also PHM’s effort so that the new wells can start production without interruption from future planned maintenance activities,” he added.

“Other strategies implemented to reduce LPO are working on several items simultaneously and optimizing the duration of Planned Maintenance Activities (e.g., from target five days to 2 days in the CPU and Sisi Nubi fields and from target two days to 1 day in the NPU field). In the SPU field, the five days duration of the planned maintenance activity is the most optimal,” said Krisna.

Meanwhile, SKK Migas Deputy Operations Julius Wiratno  said the acceleration of Planned Maintenance carried out by PHM was crucial for SKK Migas to meet this year’s oil and gas lifting target.

“The purpose of Planned Maintenance Activities is to confirm installation maintenance runs well, thereby ensuring reliable production facilities so that future operational disruptions can be minimized,” said Julius.
Julius added that the acceleration could reduce operating costs, resulting in more optimized state revenue.
