PEP Tarakan Field Receives Visit from Indigenous Peoples of Tidung, North Kalimantan

Tarakan, North Kalimantan – PT Pertamina EP Tarakan Field received a visit from the Tidung Customary Group, at the PEP Tarakan Office, North Kalimantan (25/06). This activity aims to establish communication between the Tidung indigenous community and PEP Tarakan, to create a harmonious relationship.

The Tidung Indigenous Group of Nunukan Regency is a tribal-based community group that is a native of North Kalimantan, representing the villages around the company's operating area. In this meeting, they conveyed their inspiration related to employment and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. The proposed skills training for local youth to be ready for work.


Representing the management of PEP Tarakan Field, Assistant Manager of Production and Operations, Muhammad Asad, expressed his appreciation to the Tidung Indigenous Group who had been present for the discussion. Through meetings and communication, the Company can better understand the Tidung customs.

On a separate occasion, Pertamina Hulu Indonesia Senior Manager Relations, Farah Dewi, added that the Company believes that a thriving and independent society will be able to support harmonious relations and the sustainability of the company's operations and business. "As a form of our support to the community, in the framework of the last Environment Day, an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) has been established on Cooperation in Partnership in Managing Plastic Waste into seaweed buoys, between the Environmental Agency (DLH) of Nunukan Regency, the Joint Works Waste Bank, and Tanjung Harapan Village and PEP Field Tarakan," explained Dewi.


"We are committed to running community development programs, collaborating with all stakeholders, especially the community and the government in carrying out CSR programs to create benefits and values that are enjoyed together. Some of the activities that have been carried out for community empowerment include the Tarakan Kubedistik Batik program, planting endemic tarap trees (Artocarpus Odoratissimus), cleanup actions of The Charity Beach with some communities in Tarakan city, COVID-19 Kelingan assistance, and Akar Basah or waste-free work alliances," said Dewi.

PEP Tarakan Field always collaborates with Non-Governmental Organizations, MSMEs, and BUMDes in supporting the smooth operation and development of community independence. One form of the company's support to the disabled community is contained in the Tarakan Kubedistik Batik program. This program has economic, social, and environmental added value, with the use of mangrove waste, and appreciation of batik as a national heritage. Kubedistik was also a pioneer in creating Tarakan batik, and the first environmentally friendly batik maker in Tarakan. Kubedistik also succeeded in leading Tarakan Field to win the Gold PROPER award in 2021.
