South Samaritan - Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangatta Field held counseling for the elderly in South Sangatta District regarding degenerative diseases, healthy lifestyles, and early prevention patterns (06/11/2022). PEP Sangatta Field collaborates with the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) East Kutai branch and the South Sangatta District Government.

Representing PEP Sangatta Field management, Laksmana PL conveyed the importance of this extension program. According to him, this program is part of the Company's commitment to carry out Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs needed by the community, especially in the health sector.

"This health education is not only beneficial for the elderly who are affected by degenerative diseases, but also very beneficial for the elderly who are still healthy, and the families of the elderly who accompany them," continued Laksmana PL.

Laksmana added that he hoped that people's knowledge of the symptoms of degenerative diseases would increase awareness, making it easier for local health workers to provide early aid. This is very important, especially since several areas in South Sangatta District, such as Sangkima Village and Teluk Singkama Village, are far from hospital facilities, and limited medical equipment is available at the local auxiliary health center.

The elderly are residents with a high risk for various degenerative diseases, including heart disease, stroke, and arthritis (osteoarthritis). Not infrequently, the disease is only realized by the elderly when it is in a severe condition with complications, increasing morbidity and mortality, and a decrease in the quality of life of the elderly and the ability of the elderly to carry out their daily activities.

In addition to providing health education related to heart disease, tuberculosis, scabies, stroke, osteoarthritis, and medical rehabilitation counseling, this activity also carried out eye examinations and examination of vital signs and heart records in the elderly over 50 years.

Meanwhile, South Sangatta Sub-district Head Vita Nur Hasanah said in her remarks, "The government also does not forget to pay attention to the health of the elderly in East Kutai through health education activities as we are doing today. We also thank Pertamina, which has never been absent from supporting social-community activities in South Sangatta District," said Vita.
